Role Overview
This position centres on keeping a manufacturing plant running by directly maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment. Day to day, the technician performs preventive maintenance, diagnoses faults, and assists with new equipment installations, all aimed at reducing downtime and sustaining smooth production flow. The work is hands-on and critical to the plant's operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance on electrical systems, motors, and control panels to prevent unexpected failures.
- Diagnose and fix electrical faults in machinery and infrastructure, including wiring, circuits, and components.
- Support the installation and commissioning of new electrical equipment, ensuring proper integration with existing systems.
- Program and calibrate control systems such as PLCs and variable frequency drives to maintain operational parameters.
- Conduct safety inspections of electrical installations, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions to meet standards.
- Record maintenance activities, system performance data, and inspection results, preparing clear reports for review.
- Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to coordinate repairs and minimise disruption to schedules.
- Interpret electrical schematics and diagrams to guide troubleshooting, assembly, and quality checks on components like transformers and circuit breakers.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a directly related discipline.
- At least five years of hands-on maintenance experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Practical knowledge of PLCs, motor control circuits, switchgear, transformers, and industrial control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical diagrams.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills for electrical faults and system issues.
- Experience in planning and executing preventive maintenance schedules.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD for reviewing or updating electrical layouts is preferred.
