It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college … Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) was established under the University’s Act 2012 by the Government of Kenya in December 2012. It is a Public University that focuses exclusively on Technology. It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college if Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), that was established in 2007. The University offers a wide range of programmes both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in various Schools and Institutes. These include:Computer Science and Information Technology, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Health Science, Business Management and Economics, Geothermal Energy Technology, Geomatics, Geospatial Information Systems and Remote Sensing, Tourism and Hospitality and Technical and Professional Studies. The University also offers diploma and Certificate courses for mid-level technical skills. The programmes offered by the University are approved by the Senate and the various designated bodies like Engineers Board of Kenya (CBK) and Commission for University Education (CUE) that was established by the government of Kenya through the Commission for University Education Act, 2010. DeKUT recognises research as a pillar of both institutional and national development and its strategic focus is to provide technological education and create unique structures for research,innovations, extension and technology transfer. Thus, Research and Innovation, Linkages and Technology transfer are key result areas in the University’s Strategic plan for 2014-2019. DeKUT is already implementing an ambitious physical facilities development programme to support the realization of her Vision and Mission. The University has in place a magnificent Resource Centre,which is a multi-purpose facility whose two phases are complete now. It comprises of Lecture theatres, a Library, Laboratories and offices for both administrative and academic staff. In line with her vision of being a Premier Technological University excelling in Quality Education, Research and Technology transfer, DeKUT has put up expansive and well equipped Engineering workshops and supporting Physics and Chemistry laboratories. DeKUT intends to establish a Science and Technology Park as per the Ministry of Education’s Master Plan for Science and Technology Parks in Kenya, the second of the kind will be established at Konza City. Job Description

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) is a premier public university in Kenya, established under the University Act 2012 with a focused mandate in technology and engineering education. As the successor to Kimathi University College of Technology, DeKUT is committed to producing world-class engineers and technologists who drive innovation and industrial growth.

We are pleased to invite applications from exceptional Kenyan graduates for a fully funded M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (Machine Tools) combined with a Graduate Assistantship. This scholarship is open to all Kenyan citizens under the age of 30. Successful candidates will pursue their Master's degree while actively engaging as Graduate Assistants, gaining invaluable academic, research, and professional experience within our university community.

Upon successful completion of the M.Sc. programme, selected candidates are expected to transition directly into a Ph.D. scholarship under the same initiative. All appointments are subject to DeKUT’s bonding terms and conditions, and candidates must complete their studies within the prescribed period. This is a unique opportunity to launch your academic and research career at one of Kenya’s leading technological universities.

Requirements

  • Kenyan citizenship and under 30 years of age at the time of application.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from a recognized and accredited university, with a minimum of Second-Class Honors (Upper Division).
  • Registered or registrable with the relevant professional and/or regulatory bodies where applicable.
  • Willing to commit to the full scholarship programme and transition to Ph.D. studies upon successful completion of the Master's degree.
  • Ability to complete the M.Sc. programme within the prescribed study period.
  • Strong academic record and demonstrated potential for research and teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Pursue a full-time M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (Machine Tools) as per the university curriculum and scholarship guidelines.
  • Assist faculty members in delivering lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions for undergraduate mechanical engineering courses.
  • Support ongoing research activities, including literature reviews, data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
  • Supervise undergraduate projects, practical sessions, and examinations as assigned.
  • Provide academic mentorship and guidance to undergraduate students within the department.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, seminars, and administrative duties as required by the university.

Compensation: Fully funded scholarship covering tuition and a monthly stipend as per DeKUT graduate assistant terms.
