It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college … Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) was established under the University’s Act 2012 by the Government of Kenya in December 2012. It is a Public University that focuses exclusively on Technology. It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college if Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), that was established in 2007. The University offers a wide range of programmes both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in various Schools and Institutes. These include:Computer Science and Information Technology, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Health Science, Business Management and Economics, Geothermal Energy Technology, Geomatics, Geospatial Information Systems and Remote Sensing, Tourism and Hospitality and Technical and Professional Studies. The University also offers diploma and Certificate courses for mid-level technical skills. The programmes offered by the University are approved by the Senate and the various designated bodies like Engineers Board of Kenya (CBK) and Commission for University Education (CUE) that was established by the government of Kenya through the Commission for University Education Act, 2010. DeKUT recognises research as a pillar of both institutional and national development and its strategic focus is to provide technological education and create unique structures for research,innovations, extension and technology transfer. Thus, Research and Innovation, Linkages and Technology transfer are key result areas in the University’s Strategic plan for 2014-2019. DeKUT is already implementing an ambitious physical facilities development programme to support the realization of her Vision and Mission. The University has in place a magnificent Resource Centre,which is a multi-purpose facility whose two phases are complete now. It comprises of Lecture theatres, a Library, Laboratories and offices for both administrative and academic staff. In line with her vision of being a Premier Technological University excelling in Quality Education, Research and Technology transfer, DeKUT has put up expansive and well equipped Engineering workshops and supporting Physics and Chemistry laboratories. DeKUT intends to establish a Science and Technology Park as per the Ministry of Education’s Master Plan for Science and Technology Parks in Kenya, the second of the kind will be established at Konza City. Job Description

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) is a public university in Kenya established under the Universities Act 2012, with a proud legacy as a centre of excellence in technology, innovation, and applied sciences. DeKUT is now inviting applications from suitably qualified Kenyan graduates for the position of M.Sc. Industrial Biochemistry – Graduate Assistantship under its scholarship programme.

This is an exciting opportunity for ambitious young scientists to pursue a Master of Science degree in Industrial Biochemistry while contributing to the university’s teaching, research, and academic support activities. Successful candidates will be engaged as Graduate Assistants and will play an active role in supporting faculty, departmental operations, and research initiatives.

Upon successful completion of the Master’s programme, candidates will be expected to transition into a Ph.D. under the same scholarship framework, offering a clear and structured academic progression pathway.

This scholarship is open to all Kenyan nationals under the age of 30 years who meet the academic and professional requirements outlined below.

Requirements

  • Kenyan citizenship and age below 30 years at the time of application
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Industrial Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a closely related field from a recognized and accredited university
  • A minimum of Second-Class Honours (Upper Division) in the relevant undergraduate degree
  • Must be registered or registrable with relevant professional and/or regulatory bodies where applicable
  • Must be willing to transition to a Ph.D. programme upon successful completion of the Master’s degree
  • Must be committed to completing the Master’s programme within the prescribed study period
  • Must be willing to abide by the terms and conditions of the DeKUT Graduate Assistantship and scholarship bond

Responsibilities

  • Support faculty in delivering undergraduate coursework, tutorials, and laboratory sessions in Biochemistry and related disciplines
  • Assist in the preparation and supervision of practical laboratory classes and student research projects
  • Participate in ongoing departmental research activities and contribute to academic publications where applicable
  • Provide academic guidance and mentorship to undergraduate students
  • Undertake coursework, research, and thesis work as part of the M.Sc. Industrial Biochemistry programme
  • Perform other academic and administrative duties as assigned by the department
