It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college … Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) was established under the University’s Act 2012 by the Government of Kenya in December 2012. It is a Public University that focuses exclusively on Technology. It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college if Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), that was established in 2007. The University offers a wide range of programmes both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in various Schools and Institutes. These include:Computer Science and Information Technology, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Health Science, Business Management and Economics, Geothermal Energy Technology, Geomatics, Geospatial Information Systems and Remote Sensing, Tourism and Hospitality and Technical and Professional Studies. The University also offers diploma and Certificate courses for mid-level technical skills. The programmes offered by the University are approved by the Senate and the various designated bodies like Engineers Board of Kenya (CBK) and Commission for University Education (CUE) that was established by the government of Kenya through the Commission for University Education Act, 2010. DeKUT recognises research as a pillar of both institutional and national development and its strategic focus is to provide technological education and create unique structures for research,innovations, extension and technology transfer. Thus, Research and Innovation, Linkages and Technology transfer are key result areas in the University’s Strategic plan for 2014-2019. DeKUT is already implementing an ambitious physical facilities development programme to support the realization of her Vision and Mission. The University has in place a magnificent Resource Centre,which is a multi-purpose facility whose two phases are complete now. It comprises of Lecture theatres, a Library, Laboratories and offices for both administrative and academic staff. In line with her vision of being a Premier Technological University excelling in Quality Education, Research and Technology transfer, DeKUT has put up expansive and well equipped Engineering workshops and supporting Physics and Chemistry laboratories. DeKUT intends to establish a Science and Technology Park as per the Ministry of Education’s Master Plan for Science and Technology Parks in Kenya, the second of the kind will be established at Konza City. Job Description

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) is a public university in Kenya focused exclusively on technology. DeKUT invites applications from qualified Kenyan graduates for the position of Graduate Assistant in the M.Sc. Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power Systems Engineering) programme.

This scholarship-based graduate assistantship provides an opportunity to pursue a Master's degree while contributing to teaching, research, and academic activities in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Successful candidates will be expected to transition into a Ph.D. programme upon completion of the Master's degree, in line with DeKUT's academic progression requirements.

Requirements

  • Open to all Kenyan citizens aged 30 years and below.
  • Must hold a Bachelor's degree with at least Second-Class Honours (Upper Division) in a relevant field from a recognized and accredited university.
  • Must be registered or registrable with relevant professional and/or regulatory bodies where applicable.
  • Must be willing to transition to a Ph.D. programme after successful completion of the Master's degree.
  • Must be available to undertake the graduate assistantship role on a full-time basis.
  • Must be willing to comply with DeKUT bonding terms and conditions.
  • Must be able to complete the Master's programme within the prescribed study period.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in teaching and facilitating undergraduate classes, tutorials, and laboratory sessions in electrical and electronic engineering.
  • Support ongoing research activities in power systems engineering and related areas.
  • Participate in academic and administrative duties assigned by the department.
  • Undertake coursework and research required for the M.Sc. programme.
  • Prepare and deliver course materials under the supervision of senior faculty.
  • Contribute to student supervision, assessment, and academic advising as required.
