It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college … Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) was established under the University’s Act 2012 by the Government of Kenya in December 2012. It is a Public University that focuses exclusively on Technology. It is the successor of Kimathi University College of Technology (KUCT), a constituent college if Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), that was established in 2007. The University offers a wide range of programmes both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in various Schools and Institutes. These include:Computer Science and Information Technology, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Health Science, Business Management and Economics, Geothermal Energy Technology, Geomatics, Geospatial Information Systems and Remote Sensing, Tourism and Hospitality and Technical and Professional Studies. The University also offers diploma and Certificate courses for mid-level technical skills. The programmes offered by the University are approved by the Senate and the various designated bodies like Engineers Board of Kenya (CBK) and Commission for University Education (CUE) that was established by the government of Kenya through the Commission for University Education Act, 2010. DeKUT recognises research as a pillar of both institutional and national development and its strategic focus is to provide technological education and create unique structures for research,innovations, extension and technology transfer. Thus, Research and Innovation, Linkages and Technology transfer are key result areas in the University’s Strategic plan for 2014-2019. DeKUT is already implementing an ambitious physical facilities development programme to support the realization of her Vision and Mission. The University has in place a magnificent Resource Centre,which is a multi-purpose facility whose two phases are complete now. It comprises of Lecture theatres, a Library, Laboratories and offices for both administrative and academic staff. In line with her vision of being a Premier Technological University excelling in Quality Education, Research and Technology transfer, DeKUT has put up expansive and well equipped Engineering workshops and supporting Physics and Chemistry laboratories. DeKUT intends to establish a Science and Technology Park as per the Ministry of Education’s Master Plan for Science and Technology Parks in Kenya, the second of the kind will be established at Konza City. Job Description

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) invites applications for a Graduate Assistantship within the M.Sc. Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Microelectronic Engineering) programme. This exciting opportunity is open to Kenyan graduates under 30 years of age who are eligible for admission to the Master's programme and willing to contribute to the University's academic and research mission while pursuing advanced studies.

Successful applicants will be appointed as Graduate Assistants and will be expected to complete their Master's degree within the prescribed study period. Under the scholarship terms, candidates in this category will proceed to a Ph.D. programme upon successful completion of the M.Sc.

Requirements

  • Must be a Kenyan citizen under the age of 30 years at the time of application.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Microelectronic Engineering, or a related relevant field from a recognized and accredited university.
  • Must have obtained a minimum of Second-Class Honours (Upper Division).
  • Must be registered or registrable with relevant professional and/or regulatory bodies where applicable.
  • Willingness to pursue an M.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Microelectronic Engineering) and transition to a Ph.D. programme upon successful completion.
  • Demonstrated academic excellence, research potential, and strong communication skills.
  • Must meet all admission requirements of the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology M.Sc. programme.

Responsibilities

  • Enroll in and successfully complete the M.Sc. Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Microelectronic Engineering) programme within the prescribed study period.
  • Provide academic support to undergraduate students through tutorials, laboratory sessions, and supervised study.
  • Assist faculty members with teaching, research, and administrative duties as assigned by the University.
  • Participate in ongoing research projects in microelectronic engineering and related fields.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress and comply with DeKUT's graduate assistantship terms and conditions.
  • Fulfill bonding obligations and other applicable regulations set by Dedan Kimathi University of Technology.
  • Transition to Ph.D. studies upon successful completion of the Master's programme, as guided by the scholarship framework.
