Position Title: Loans (Relationship) Officer

Role Mandate

We are looking for energetic and persuasive Loans Relationship Officers to spearhead our growth in the Luanda, Bungoma, and Kapenguria regions. In this role, you will act as the primary link between the institution and our clients, balancing aggressive business development with rigorous risk management. Your objective is to expand our loan book by identifying creditworthy borrowers, providing tailored financial advice, and maintaining a high-quality portfolio through diligent follow-ups. This position is suited for a target-driven individual who excels in field-based engagement and relationship-centered sales.

Key Performance Areas

Portfolio Development & Client Acquisition

  • Proactively identify and engage with potential clients to expand the institution’s market presence and loan portfolio.

  • Market and promote various loan products to diverse sectors, ensuring deep market penetration within the assigned region.

  • Meet and exceed monthly sales and disbursement targets as established by the organizational roadmap.

  • Educate prospective borrowers on product terms, interest rates, and repayment conditions to ensure informed decision-making.

Credit Assessment & Disbursement Management

  • Facilitate the loan application process by gathering mandatory documentation and verifying client information.

  • Conduct preliminary credit assessments to evaluate borrower risk and recommend approvals based on internal lending guidelines.

  • Ensure the efficient and timely disbursement of approved funds to clients.

  • Monitor repayment schedules and maintain regular contact with clients to ensure a healthy, non-delinquent portfolio.

Relationship Management & Financial Advisory

  • Build and sustain strong professional ties with existing clients to maximize satisfaction and encourage repeat business.

  • Provide personalized financial counsel to clients, including effective repayment strategies and business growth advice.

  • Address client inquiries and resolve service-related issues with high levels of professionalism and efficiency.

  • Manage debt recovery and resolve delinquency issues promptly to minimize the institution’s risk exposure.

Requirements & Competencies

Professional Background

  • Education: Certificate or Diploma in any academic field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Loans or Relationship Officer, specifically within a Sacco, Microfinance Institution (MFI), or Bank.

  • Technical Knowledge: A solid grasp of credit assessment processes and diverse loan product structures.

  • Proficiency: Basic literacy in Microsoft Office applications for reporting and data entry.

Essential Skill Set

  • Target-Driven: Proven ability to work independently and consistently hit disbursement and collection targets.

  • Interpersonal Flair: Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust across different community demographics.

  • Risk Awareness: Ability to identify red flags in loan applications and apply sound judgment in risk mitigation.

  • Mobility: Comfortable working in the field and navigating the local landscapes of Luanda, Bungoma, or Kapenguria.
