Role Overview
This role is central to keeping daily operations moving for a Nairobi-based organisation. As Driver, you will be responsible for the secure, punctual delivery of equipment, materials, and supplies to various locations, while also providing hands-on logistical support wherever it is needed. Your reliability directly supports the company’s ability to serve its clients and maintain smooth, uninterrupted workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate company vehicles in full compliance with traffic laws, road signs, and defensive driving standards.
- Plan efficient delivery routes across Nairobi and surrounding regions to meet schedule deadlines.
- Assist with manual loading, securing, and unloading of cargo, ensuring items are properly handled to prevent damage or loss.
- Verify all dispatched items against delivery paperwork before departure and confirm returned goods are accounted for on arrival.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections covering tyres, brakes, lights, fluid levels, and general mechanical condition, reporting any defects immediately.
- Maintain a clean and presentable vehicle interior and exterior, scheduling routine washing and basic upkeep.
- Keep accurate logs of trips, mileage, fuel usage, and deliveries, hand in the required reports promptly.
- Notify management straightaway about any incidents, including accidents, breakdowns, traffic delays, or security concerns.
- Perform other assigned operational tasks that support the logistics and transport function as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- KCSE certificate or an equivalent academic qualification is required.
- At least five years of proven driving experience, ideally in commercial, courier, or delivery driving roles.
- Valid driving licence covering the specific class of vehicles used by the company.
- Clean driving record with no history of serious traffic violations or suspension.
- Sound practical knowledge of vehicle maintenance basics and the ability to detect common faults before they escalate.
- Excellent familiarity with Nairobi’s road network, including major highways, feeder roads, and common traffic congestion zones.
- Certification in defensive driving is a strong advantage.
- National Youth Service (NYS) training or equivalent discipline-oriented programmes will be viewed favourably.
- Demonstrated personal qualities: dependable, honest, punctual, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented.
- Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills, enabling clear liaison with supervisors, colleagues, and delivery contacts.
- Comfortable working under minimal supervision, remaining calm and professional when faced with tight deadlines or unexpected disruptions.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting, carrying, and moving cargo during loading and unloading activities.
- Flexible attitude towards working hours and willingness to assist the broader team with ad hoc logistical duties.
