Role Overview
You will handle day-to-day legal matters primarily in insurance litigation, from reviewing policy documents to attending court hearings. This role is essential to the legal team's ability to manage a steady caseload of claims and disputes, ensuring deadlines are met and clients are represented effectively. You will work closely with senior lawyers and underwriters to assess risk and develop case strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and file legal documents including pleadings, witness statements, and settlement agreements for insurance-related disputes.
- Conduct legal research on insurance law, regulatory updates, and relevant case precedents to support ongoing cases.
- Attend court proceedings at various levels, including mention dates, hearings, and trials, to represent clients or instruct counsel.
- Liaise with clients, adjusters, and external counsel to gather evidence, obtain instructions, and provide case updates.
- Manage a personal caseload of assigned files, ensuring all procedural steps are completed within prescribed timelines.
- Assist in the negotiation of claim settlements by preparing evaluations, reviewing offers, and advising on legal exposure.
- Maintain accurate case records, billing summaries, and time logs in accordance with firm protocols.
- Support senior lawyers in preparing for arbitrations, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution sessions.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university.
- Between one and two years of post-admission experience practicing law, preferably with exposure to litigation.
- Demonstrated understanding of insurance law principles, policy interpretation, and standard court processes.
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills, with the ability to draft clear legal arguments under tight deadlines.
- Proven capability to work effectively under pressure, managing multiple priorities without compromising accuracy.
- Membership in good standing with the relevant Bar association or licensing body.
