Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) seeks a qualified academic to join its Department of Data Science and Cybersecurity as a full-time lecturer and researcher. In this role, you will teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, guide student research projects, and contribute to the university’s growing portfolio of applied research in data science, digital forensics, and cyber threat analysis. Your work will directly support the university’s mission to equip graduates with practical, industry-relevant skills in high-demand technology fields while expanding the institution’s scholarly output in these disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver lectures and practical sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in data science, cybersecurity, and digital forensics, ensuring alignment with current industry practices and academic standards.
- Supervise and mentor postgraduate students in their thesis, dissertation, and final-year project work, providing feedback and guidance to ensure rigorous, ethical, and original research.
- Conduct independent and collaborative research leading to publication in refereed journals, conference proceedings, and other recognized academic outlets, with a focus on attaining and exceeding the university’s publication point requirements.
- Develop and review curriculum content, course materials, and assessment methods across the department’s programs to keep offerings current with technological advancements and accreditation standards.
- Contribute to the university’s research agenda through grant writing, proposal development, and participation in interdisciplinary research teams and institutional collaborations.
- Participate in departmental and faculty administrative duties, including committee membership, student academic advising, examination moderation, and quality assurance processes.
- Engage in community outreach and professional development activities, including industry partnerships, workshops, and public lectures that raise the university’s profile in cybersecurity and data science.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A PhD in Data Science, Computer Security and Forensics, Digital Forensics, Cyber Security, or a closely related discipline, obtained from an accredited and recognized university.
- A minimum of 24 publication points, with at least 16 points derived from articles published in refereed journals.
- Current registration with a relevant professional body where applicable, demonstrating professional competence and adherence to field-specific standards.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research and a strong record of scholarly output in areas such as machine learning, network security, digital investigation, or applied cryptography.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the capacity to deliver clear, engaging lectures and effectively supervise diverse student cohorts.
- Familiarity with modern teaching technologies, learning management systems, and digital tools used in data science and security education.
