Job Description

Role Overview

This position is the on-site backbone of our solar installation operations. You will be both a working supervisor and a hands-on installer, guiding a crew through every stage of a PV project — from assessing the site before mobilization to wiring inverters and batteries and finally commissioning the system. Your leadership directly determines whether each installation is completed safely, to engineering specifications, and in a way that reflects well on our company long after the crew leaves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in daily installation work, assigning tasks to installers and technicians while keeping the crew aligned and productive.
  • Read and interpret design drawings, single-line diagrams, and site layouts, then convert those documents into precise physical installations.
  • Oversee the mechanical and electrical installation of racking, modules, inverters, battery storage units, combiner boxes, and all associated cabling and protection equipment.
  • Perform pre-mobilization site inspections to verify structural soundness, access routes, and any conditions that could delay or complicate installation work.
  • Enforce compliance with EPRA licensing requirements, national electrical standards, manufacturer guidelines, and client-specific safety rules on every project.
  • Lead testing and commissioning activities, including string voltage checks, insulation resistance tests, grounding verification, and inverter setup.
  • Keep meticulous records of installation progress, completed checklists, and handover packages, and communicate updates to the project manager and design engineer.
  • Manage tools, materials, and equipment on site, tracking usage against the bill of materials and ensuring proper storage and handling.
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental protocols, with particular attention to working at height and live electrical systems.
  • Mentor junior installers, demonstrating correct techniques and raising the overall quality and consistency of the crew's workmanship.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, answering installation questions and maintaining a professional, courteous presence.
  • Support post-installation service work, including troubleshooting callbacks and scheduled maintenance visits when needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in electrical engineering, electrical installation, renewable energy, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • At least four years of hands-on solar PV installation experience, including a minimum of one to two years leading or supervising installation crews.
  • Deep working knowledge of PV system components — modules, mounting hardware, inverters, battery storage systems, combiner boxes, and all balance-of-system wiring.
  • Solid grasp of electrical installation practices, grounding and earthing methods, and relevant standards such as NEC, IEE, and IEC, as well as Kenyan building and electrical codes.
  • Valid EPRA T2 license is mandatory; an EPRA T3 license is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with occupational health and safety requirements for rooftop and electrical work; OSHA, NEBOSH, or equivalent HSE certification is advantageous.
  • Confidence reading technical drawings, single-line diagrams, and installation schedules, and translating them into field actions.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving ability, with the temperament to keep crews organized, safe, and motivated under deadline pressure.
  • Clear communication skills for liaising with clients, engineers, and project managers in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the country, including to remote project sites, sometimes with short notice.
  • A valid driving license is an added advantage.
