Job Description

Role Overview

This senior consulting position anchors the technical direction and quality control across client engagements, from initial diagnosis through final delivery. Day to day, the Lead Consultant steers job evaluation assignments, validates compensation frameworks, and ensures every report and recommendation meets professional benchmarks before reaching executives or board members. The role matters because misaligned grading and pay structures create turnover and equity risks—so getting the methodology, stakeholder buy-in, and implementation roadmap right is critical to the client’s organisational health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the full lifecycle of consultancy projects, setting timelines, managing risks, and coordinating cross-functional workstreams.
  • Audit the client’s current organisational structure, HR policies, and total reward setup to identify gaps and improvement areas.
  • Select and justify the most suitable job evaluation approach (e.g., point-factor, proprietary systems) based on sector and complexity.
  • Oversee the job analysis and evaluation process, ensuring consistent application of criteria and reducing grading discrepancies.
  • Conduct confidential interviews and facilitation sessions with senior executives and management to gather strategic input and secure buy-in.
  • Validate final job grades and remuneration benchmarking data, then design a grading structure and salary architecture aligned with market trends.
  • Prepare and present formal proposals to management, HR committees, and boards, incorporating data visualisations and change-management recommendations.
  • Perform quality reviews on all deliverables—reports, spreadsheets, presentations—before client submission, and provide post-project guidance for smooth implementation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Organisational Development, or a closely related discipline.
  • Full membership with IHRM (or equivalent recognised body) in good standing; a valid practising certificate is a strong advantage.
  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in HR consulting, with at least 5 years specifically dedicated to job evaluation and compensation/benefits assignments.
  • Proven track record delivering similar work across multiple sectors such as financial services, NGOs, academic institutions, and service industries.
  • Deep familiarity with recognised job evaluation methodologies (e.g., Hay Guide Chart, Mercer IPE, or custom point-factor systems) and reward benchmarking tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate executive-level discussions, manage diverse stakeholder expectations, and present complex data to non-HR audiences.
  • Strong project leadership skills, including managing parallel workstreams and delivering under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality.
