Role Overview
As Laundry Supervisor, you own the daily rhythm of a high-volume laundry operation — from the moment soiled linen and uniforms arrive for sorting to the point they are pressed, folded and returned to the floors, kitchens or guest rooms in immaculate condition. You are the person who keeps the wash cycle, the chemical dosing and the crew all running to the same standard, protecting both the property's linen investment and the guest's first impression of cleanliness. This role sits at the intersection of hands-on technical work and team leadership, so expect to spend part of your shift at the machines and part of it coaching attendants, checking quality and reconciling stock.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and run the daily laundry schedule, sequencing loads by fabric type, colour, soil level and priority so that outlets, housekeeping and guest requests are all covered on time.
- Operate and monitor commercial washers, dryers, ironers, presses and folding equipment, watching cycle times, temperatures and load weights, and escalating mechanical faults before they stall production.
- Apply correct stain-removal techniques and prepare chemical solutions at the right concentration, following safe handling and dosage rules and keeping safety data information accessible to the team.
- Inspect every batch as it comes out of the cycle, pulling items that are torn, discoloured, badly stained or worn past service and tagging them for repair, replacement or write-off.
- Track linen and uniform stock against agreed par levels — counting, recording usage, flagging shortages and reconciling inventory so losses and unexplained shrinkage are visible rather than absorbed.
- Assign work, build shift rosters and train attendants on machinery, folding standards, chemical safety and fabric care; give regular feedback and contribute to performance evaluations.
- Maintain hygiene, health and safety discipline across the laundry floor, including PPE use, housekeeping of work areas, safe storage of chemicals and prompt reporting of incidents.
- Keep laundered records current — daily output, chemical consumption, linen movement and damage reports — and share them with management when requested.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in Laundry Operations, Hospitality Management, Housekeeping or a closely related field; formal training in laundry operations, fabric care or textile management is a distinct advantage.
- Two to five years of hands-on experience in a laundry, housekeeping or hospitality environment, having progressed through roles such as Laundry Attendant, Senior Laundry Attendant or Laundry Supervisor.
- Demonstrated experience supervising and coordinating a laundry team, including allocating work and holding others to a quality standard.
- Solid command of washing, drying, ironing, pressing and folding techniques across a mixed range of fabrics and garment types.
- Working knowledge of fabric care, stain removal chemistry and the safe, correctly dosed use of commercial laundry chemicals.
- Experience with linen and uniform control, stock management and inventory procedures, including accurate record-keeping and usage reporting.
- Confidence operating and monitoring commercial laundry equipment safely, with the judgement to spot when a machine is performing outside its normal parameters.
- Strong grasp of hygiene, health and safety standards applicable to a laundry environment.
- Proven ability to supervise, train, motivate and evaluate staff, with excellent organisation, time management and attention to detail.
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills, sound problem-solving and decision-making under deadline pressure, and a consistent record of integrity, accountability and commitment to service excellence.
