Job Description

Role Overview

This is a branch-based Islamic Banking specialist role within the retail and business banking network. The holder owns a personal portfolio of Shariah-compliant customers and prospects, growing new-to-bank accounts and deepening existing relationships while keeping every step of the sales and onboarding process inside the bank's risk, KYC and AML guardrails. The position matters because it connects commercial growth targets at branch level with the discipline and service standards that protect the bank's reputation and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate the bank's Islamic Banking strategy into a workable branch sales plan, working with the Branch Manager to set execution priorities that align to the wider growth, transformation and returns agenda.
  • Build and manage your own portfolio end to end — prospecting, onboarding, funding quality new-to-bank accounts promptly, and reviewing performance against daily targets so shortfalls are addressed with a concrete action plan rather than left to accumulate.
  • Cross-sell across the wider business by partnering with direct sales, asset finance, corporate and investment banking, and bancassurance teams, using those touchpoints to profile customers more fully and widen the share of wallet.
  • Safeguard the book by applying KYC and AML processes rigorously to new and existing business, keeping documentation complete, capturing accurate customer data in the core banking system, and booking business so that all charges, commissions and fees are collected in line with the current tariff.
  • Resolve customer queries and complaints quickly across phone, email, letter and in-branch channels, meeting agreed turnaround times for account onboarding and loan processing and helping the branch hold its service and NPS standards.
  • Keep close to the market — gather competitor and customer intelligence, watch for regulatory and government policy shifts, and feed product observations back through the Branch Manager and industry heads to inform reviews and new offerings.
  • Support operational control by carrying out assigned snap checks with the Assistant Branch Manager, keeping the area's costs in check, and flagging any operational risk before it becomes a loss.
  • Strengthen the branch team by completing assigned e-learning and internal training on schedule, planning your own leave with your line manager, and contributing to a collaborative environment with clear succession cover.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A business-related degree from a recognised university.
  • Practical experience in Islamic banking, with a working grasp of how Shariah-compliant products are structured and sold.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of banking products and services, including current accounts, savings accounts, loans and credit cards.
  • Detailed knowledge of retail and business banking product strategy, sufficient to match products to customer needs and to spot emerging opportunities.
  • Sound understanding of Muslim banking culture and the expectations that shape customer relationships in this segment.
  • Awareness of the Islamic banking competitor landscape and a commitment to process excellence and consistent execution.
  • Comfort operating within defined policies, SOPs and risk appetite, with the discipline to document, report and escalate correctly.

What This Role Offers

  • Ownership of a defined portfolio and a direct hand in shaping branch-level Islamic Banking sales strategy alongside the Branch Manager.
  • Cross-functional exposure through regular collaboration with direct sales, asset finance, corporate and investment banking, and bancassurance colleagues.
  • Structured development through assigned e-learning and internal training, plus a role in your own succession planning and that of the wider branch team.
  • A position where commercial results and control standards carry equal weight, giving you visibility across both sales and operational risk in the branch network.
