Job Description

Role Overview

As an Inventory Intern, you will be embedded within our operations team, ensuring that every product movement—from receiving deliveries to transferring stock between locations—is accurately captured and traceable. Your daily focus will be on physical stock counts, reconciling system records against actual inventory, and flagging any discrepancies that could impact purchasing decisions or customer availability. This role is essential for keeping our retail and warehouse operations running smoothly, giving you direct exposure to the full inventory lifecycle in a fast-paced commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute cycle counts and full stocktakes, comparing physical quantities against system data to identify any mismatches.
  • Oversee the intake of incoming shipments, verifying quantities, quality, and documentation before updating inventory records.
  • Maintain precise and current inventory databases, logging all receipts, transfers, returns, and adjustments without delay.
  • Investigate and report stock variances by tracing transaction history and identifying where errors may have occurred.
  • Coordinate inter-branch and warehouse transfers, ensuring goods are dispatched, received, and documented correctly at every stage.
  • Track stock velocity to highlight slow-moving lines and fast-selling items, providing data that informs replenishment decisions.
  • Produce regular inventory performance reports, including shrinkage metrics and stock ageing summaries, for the operations team.
  • Organise and file all inventory-related paperwork, including delivery notes, transfer forms, and audit checklists, to ensure full traceability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Pursuing or holding a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to spot irregularities in counts, documents, or system records.
  • Sound numerical and analytical aptitude, comfortable working with quantities, percentages, and simple data comparisons.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets (including sorting, filtering, and basic formulas) is highly preferred.
  • Capable of working independently on assigned tasks while also collaborating effectively within a small team.
  • Adaptable and willing to learn in a demanding retail setting where priorities can shift throughout the day.
  • Prior exposure to stock control, warehousing, or retail operations is a plus, though not mandatory for this entry-level internship.
