Role Overview
This position centres on making sure Twyford and Micasso tiles and paving products are installed to a consistently high standard across every project where they are specified. The supervisor leads by example, working alongside installers and site teams to demonstrate correct techniques, provide hands-on training, and resolve installation problems on location. The role is especially focused on large-format tiles and oversized paving units, typically 60×120 cm and above, where poor handling or preparation can quickly compromise the finished result.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine installation protocols for wall and floor tiles, paving, walkways, patios and driveways, covering everything from surface preparation through to grouting, cleaning and handover.
- Carry out physical installation work alongside teams, showing correct methods for cutting, setting out, adhesive application, levelling, spacing, jointing and finishing, with extra attention on large-format products.
- Plan and deliver practical training sessions for installers, fundis, contractors, dealer staff and site personnel, including assessments to confirm skills have been understood.
- Visit construction sites, dealer outlets, showrooms and customer projects to offer technical advice, identify defects such as lippage, poor adhesion or uneven joints, and recommend practical corrections.
- Support promotional activities by running live demonstrations at exhibitions, product launches, installer clinics and dealer activations, showing the correct use and performance of Twyford and Micasso products.
- Build relationships with professional tilers, contractors and developers, helping to grow a network of trained installers who consistently follow recommended practices.
- Keep records of training sessions, site visits, demonstrations and installer numbers, and feed market feedback back into the sales, marketing and product teams.
- Enforce safety and quality expectations during all installation and training work, ensuring tools, materials and personal protective equipment are used properly.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in building technology, construction management, civil engineering, architecture, technical education or a closely related field is preferred, though strong practical experience may be accepted in place of formal study.
- At least three years of hands-on experience in tile laying, paving, construction or building materials installation, including direct responsibility for supervising or executing installation work.
- Proven ability to work with large-format tiles, particularly 60×120 cm and above, including safe handling, cutting and installation techniques.
- Experience in paving installation, whether for walkways, patios, driveways or similar surfaces, is an advantage.
- Prior experience training or supervising tile installers, fundis, contractors or site teams is highly desirable.
- Willingness to be based primarily in the field, with frequent travel to construction sites, dealer outlets, showrooms and event locations, and occasional work outside normal office hours.
- Physical capability to take part in practical installation work, including lifting and positioning large-format tiles safely.
