Role Overview

This position keeps the organisation's day-to-day technology running safely and predictably, acting as the first line of defence for systems, networks and the people who depend on them. The post holder maintains the hardware and software estate, watches over backups and security controls, and resolves the technical issues that would otherwise interrupt business operations. Just as importantly, the role supports colleagues directly, helping them use information systems correctly and stay aligned with compliance obligations.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer servers, routers, switches and firewalls, including installation, configuration, patching and ongoing troubleshooting.
• Safeguard data through access controls, security monitoring and adherence to information security policy, responding promptly to suspected threats or breaches.
• Schedule, run and verify backups, and confirm that restoration procedures actually work when tested.
• Maintain accurate records of hardware and software specifications so that assets, licences and capacity are always known and up to date.
• Log, track and progress technical problems through to resolution, keeping affected users informed along the way.
• Plan and carry out preventive maintenance routines that reduce unplanned downtime and extend the life of equipment.
• Support virtualised and cloud environments, assisting with deployment, monitoring and configuration tasks.
• Advise and assist staff on information processing, system usage and compliance requirements, and document recurring fixes into reusable guidance.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Bachelor of Business Information Technology (BBIT) or a closely related discipline.
• Professional certifications such as CompTIA, Cisco or Microsoft are a distinct advantage.
• Hands-on experience in an ICT support, infrastructure or network administration role, with a proven record of installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting hardware, software, servers, routers, switches and firewalls.
• Solid working knowledge of ICT systems, network administration, information security and recognised ICT best practice.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity threats, security controls and appropriate countermeasures.
• Exposure to virtualisation and cloud platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, AWS or Azure would be beneficial.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with clear communication and good interpersonal skills.
• Capacity to work unsupervised as well as within a team, juggle competing priorities and stay effective in a changing environment.
• Genuine commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
