Job Description

Role Overview

This industrial attachment places you directly inside a professional newsroom or media outlet, where you will assist editorial teams with daily content production under the supervision of experienced journalists. Your contributions — from basic fact-checking to drafting short news items — help maintain the outlet’s editorial pace while giving you a realistic feel for deadline-driven journalism before you graduate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support senior reporters and editors by gathering background information, verifying data, and conducting initial source checks for news stories.
  • Draft short, accurate news summaries, briefs, or social media posts for review and possible publication.
  • Attend editorial meetings, take notes, and assist with story planning and scheduling.
  • Transcribe interviews and audio recordings, flagging key quotes for use in longer articles or packages.
  • Help maintain digital archives of published work and update contact lists for sources and experts.
  • Contribute to multimedia content by capturing still images or short video clips at news events, when required.
  • Monitor news wires, social media feeds, and press releases for developing stories relevant to the beat you are assigned.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as routing press releases to the correct department and logging incoming story tips.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Final-year student enrolled in a recognised university or college, pursuing a degree or diploma in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, Digital Communication, or Corporate Communication.
  • A letter of recommendation from your institution, issued within the last two months, that specifies the recommended attachment period.
  • Academic transcripts for your current academic year.
  • Valid student identification card from your institution.
  • Valid MCK Student Press Card for 2026.
  • A mandatory sample of your journalistic work — for example, a published online article, a school project, a blog post, or a portfolio piece demonstrating basic reporting and writing ability.

What We Offer / Why Join

This programme equips you with hands-on experience before you enter the job market, bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world editorial operations. You will work alongside professionals who can guide your development, and the exposure to a functioning newsroom helps you build a portfolio of verifiable work samples that strengthens your applications for full-time roles after graduation.
