Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on, early-career ICT position for someone who enjoys being the person colleagues turn to when technology stops cooperating. Day to day, you will keep desktops, laptops, networks, and cloud collaboration tools running so that the rest of the organisation can work without interruption — diagnosing faults, setting up equipment, and helping users get the most out of the systems they rely on. It is a role where a quick, methodical response and clear communication directly protect productivity across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for staff technical issues, troubleshooting problems on Windows or Linux workstations and seeing them through to resolution.
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop and laptop hardware, printers, and peripheral devices, including building or reimaging machines when needed.
  • Carry out hardware fault diagnosis and repair, identifying failing components and arranging replacement or escalation as appropriate.
  • Support day-to-day network operations across LAN and WAN links, including IP address configuration, cabling checks, and basic router and switch configuration.
  • Set up and administer user accounts, mailboxes, shared drives, and collaboration spaces within Microsoft Office 365 or Google Workspace.
  • Log, track, and document support requests, keeping an accurate record of symptoms, fixes, and recurring issues so patterns can be addressed at the root.
  • Apply routine system updates, patches, and endpoint protection, and follow agreed security practices when handling user data and credentials.
  • Assist with the rollout of new software, hardware, and user onboarding, and contribute to simple how-to guides that reduce repeat tickets.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Information and Communication Technology or a closely related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of Windows or Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, and everyday administration tasks.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts: LAN and WAN topologies, IP addressing and subnetting, and the roles of routers and switches.
  • Practical familiarity with Microsoft Office 365 or Google Workspace, particularly account and mailbox administration.
  • Aptitude for hardware troubleshooting and repair, with the confidence to open a machine, test components, and identify the source of a fault.
  • Exposure to software development practices or cybersecurity fundamentals would be a distinct advantage.
  • Clear verbal and written communication, a patient approach with non-technical users, and the ability to prioritise several open issues at once.
