Role Overview
This is a hands-on HR position embedded within a large-scale agricultural operation, where the headcount expands rapidly during planting and harvesting windows. The role manages the complete employment cycle for both permanent and seasonal staff, covering recruitment, induction, deployment, day-to-day welfare, and compliance with local labour law. Success in this post directly affects the employer’s ability to keep production running smoothly, maintain ethical accreditations, and protect its reputation as a responsible employer.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with farm and production managers to forecast seasonal labour requirements and run targeted recruitment drives in advance of peak operational periods.
- Deliver structured onboarding and orientation sessions for large groups of new hires, ensuring contracts, safety instructions, and company policies are clearly understood.
- Oversee daily workforce deployment, assigning staff to plantation zones or production units based on real-time workloads and shifting agricultural priorities.
- Maintain accurate attendance, leave, and overtime records, liaising with payroll teams to guarantee correct and timely wage payments.
- Act as the primary welfare contact for employees, managing grievances, accommodation and transport needs, and facilitating access to medical support when necessary.
- Keep the business audit-ready by updating personnel files, preparing evidence packs, and embedding workplace practices that satisfy Fairtrade and Kenya Flower Council (KFC) requirements.
- Advise line supervisors on disciplinary procedures, Kenyan labour legislation, and fair treatment of workers, reducing risk of disputes and non-compliance.
- Coordinate short training sessions for both seasonal and permanent employees, covering workplace safety, workers’ rights, pesticide handling, and code-of-conduct expectations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 2–3 years of practical HR experience, ideally within an agricultural, horticultural, or floricultural environment.
- Working knowledge of Fairtrade and/or Kenya Flower Council audit standards, including documentation and evidence preparation.
- Active and current membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) Kenya.
- Professional fluency in both English and Swahili, with strong written and verbal communication abilities.
