Job Description

Role Overview

This position is responsible for supporting the full employee lifecycle across a large, seasonal agricultural workforce. Day to day, you will coordinate the rapid mobilisation and deployment of casual and permanent staff, manage onboarding and induction programmes, and ensure that labour practices align with company policies and ethical audit standards. Your work matters because it directly keeps operations running during peak harvest periods while safeguarding the welfare and legal compliance of every worker on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute seasonal recruitment drives, including shortlisting, interviewing, and issuing contracts for hundreds of temporary workers within tight turnaround windows.
  • Run structured onboarding and induction sessions covering health and safety, workplace conduct, piece-rate systems, and worker rights before deployment to the field.
  • Coordinate daily labour allocation and redeployment across different crop cycles, ensuring supervisors have correctly documented and appropriately assigned teams.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, attendance registers, leave balances, and disciplinary documentation in line with Kenyan labour law and internal HR procedures.
  • Act as the first point of contact for worker grievances, welfare concerns, and accommodation or transport issues, resolving them promptly and fairly.
  • Prepare HR documentation and evidence for Fairtrade and Kenya Flower Council (KFC) audits, including contracts, payslips, training logs, and welfare inspection records.
  • Support payroll by verifying attendance data, overtime, and piece-rate calculations so that workers are paid accurately and on time.
  • Deliver monthly toolbox talks and briefings on compliance topics such as harassment prevention, safety protocols, and medical or maternity entitlements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • At least 2–3 years of hands-on HR experience, ideally within a high-volume operational or field-based setting.
  • Previous experience in agriculture, horticulture, or floriculture is strongly preferred, particularly with seasonal or casual labour forces.
  • Familiarity with Fairtrade certification standards and Kenya Flower Council (KFC) audit requirements, including preparing documentation and participating in audit visits.
  • Active or associate membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) Kenya.
  • Professional fluency in both English and Swahili, with clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with workers, supervisors, and external auditors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure during peak harvest seasons, prioritising competing HR demands without compromising accuracy or worker dignity.
