Role Overview
This is a hands-on, generalist HR position based in Kenya, where you will be the primary people operations lead across multiple agricultural sites, with a strong focus on horticulture and beekeeping teams. Day to day, you will manage the full employee lifecycle from hiring through exit, while ensuring every HR process aligns with Kenyan labour law and the organisation’s operational rhythms. Your work matters because a well-supported, fairly managed workforce is essential to productivity and safety in remote, fast-moving agricultural environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the entire hiring cycle, from shortlisting candidates to coordinating interviews, issuing contracts, and running structured onboarding and induction programmes for new joiners.
- Keep all personnel files, employment contracts, and confidential records accurate, secure, and fully audit-ready at all times.
- Translate HR policies and procedures into practical daily actions that supervisors and field teams can easily follow, then monitor compliance across every site.
- Act as the first point of contact for employee concerns, handling grievances, disciplinary conversations, and workplace disputes with fairness and consistency.
- Champion inclusion and respectful teamwork, especially in mixed teams spread across multiple operational locations, and flag any emerging relationship risks to management.
- Coordinate probation check-ins, annual performance reviews, and individual development plans, ensuring all documentation is completed on time.
- Verify attendance, leave balances, overtime, and allowances, then provide accurate inputs to payroll and reconcile any employee data changes before processing.
- Prepare monthly HR reports covering headcount, turnover, absenteeism, grievance outcomes, recruitment progress, and performance review completion.
- Travel regularly to field sites to conduct spot checks, meet employees, understand working conditions, and support local supervisors with HR advice.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Business Management, or a closely related field.
- If your first degree is in another discipline, you must hold a Diploma or Higher Diploma in HRM or be a Certified Human Resource Professional Kenya (CHRP-K).
- At least three years of experience as an HR generalist, managing multiple HR functions simultaneously with minimal supervision.
- At least two years of that experience must be within agriculture, particularly horticulture and/or beekeeping operations.
- Solid working knowledge of the Employment Act 2007 and other applicable Kenyan labour laws, including occupational safety requirements.
- Active membership with the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
- Hands-on experience with payroll administration, HRIS platforms, Microsoft Office tools, and performance management processes.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive employee information with high integrity and discretion.
- Strong conflict resolution, communication, and report-writing skills, plus a willingness to work independently in remote field locations.
