Role Overview
This position is responsible for shaping and maintaining a healthy, productive workplace by owning the full employee relations lifecycle. You will act as a trusted advisor to both staff and line managers, handling everything from contract administration and disciplinary processes to engagement initiatives and exit procedures. Day to day, your work will centre on translating our organisational values into everyday practice while ensuring every people decision aligns with Kenyan labour law and best-practice HR standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive employee engagement by coordinating culture surveys, translating results into actionable improvements, and partnering with the welfare committee to design activities that strengthen morale and inclusion.
- Manage welfare and wellbeing programmes end to end, including responding to employee queries on medical and pension schemes, coordinating with compensation teams on renewals, and liaising with health and safety colleagues on regulatory compliance.
- Serve as the primary contact for employee relations concerns, advising managers on disciplinary and grievance procedures, facilitating fair hearings, and maintaining clear documentation for any ongoing legal matters.
- Oversee the full probation and contract lifecycle, including performance reviews, confirmations, renewals, and non-renewals, while ensuring payroll receives accurate and timely updates.
- Provide operational HR advisory support on policies, Kenyan labour regulations, and practical workplace issues, while proactively recommending process improvements to reduce friction and risk.
- Champion the HRIS self-service module by training employees, troubleshooting access issues, and escalating system challenges to administrators or vendors when needed.
- Support policy reviews and compliance audits, communicating updates clearly and helping staff interpret and apply guidelines consistently across the organisation.
- Contribute to strategic projects, including change initiatives, culture-building programmes, and service excellence efforts, by representing employee relations expertise and tracking progress.
- Prepare and present dashboards on key ER metrics such as case volumes, grievances, engagement scores, welfare participation, and exit trends, offering data-driven recommendations to leadership while maintaining strict confidentiality.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, Law, or a closely related field.
- CHRP certification and active IHRM membership are mandatory.
- At least five years of HR experience, with significant focus on employee relations, disciplinary management, and engagement initiatives.
- Comprehensive understanding of Kenyan labour laws, statutory obligations, and current HR best practices.
- Demonstrated success in managing engagement surveys, welfare programmes, and employee feedback cycles.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and handle sensitive matters diplomatically.
- Practical proficiency in HRIS platforms, including employee self-service modules and reporting tools.
- Unquestionable integrity, discretion, and professionalism when handling confidential employee data.
- Analytical mindset capable of translating HR metrics into clear insights and actionable recommendations.
