Job Description

Role Overview

This position anchors the day-to-day human resources function for a growing organisation, ensuring that every stage of the employee lifecycle runs smoothly and lawfully. You will be the first point of contact for staff queries, coordinate hiring and onboarding, and keep HR operations aligned with Kenyan employment regulations. Your work will directly shape workplace culture and help managers build engaged, compliant teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full recruitment cycle, from drafting job adverts and screening applicants to conducting interviews, verifying references, and preparing employment contracts.
  • Run structured onboarding for new hires, including orientation sessions, introduction to company policies, and collection of necessary documentation.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on employee relations, handling grievances, disciplinary hearings, and conflict resolution in line with internal procedures and the Employment Act.
  • Support performance management by coordinating appraisal cycles, tracking goal setting, and guiding managers on feedback and improvement plans.
  • Identify training needs across departments and organise development programmes, workshops, and refresher courses to build staff capability.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, including personnel files, leave balances, and attendance data, while ensuring payroll inputs are error-free and submitted on time.
  • Monitor compliance with Kenyan labour laws, statutory deductions, and workplace safety requirements, and update HR policies as legislation changes.
  • Advise line managers on the consistent application of HR policies, from code of conduct to leave administration and probation reviews.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on HR experience, preferably in a generalist role covering recruitment, employee relations, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Kenyan labour laws, including the Employment Act, and familiarity with NSSF, NHIF, and PAYE obligations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters discreetly and professionally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trust with employees at all levels and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Solid organisational and administrative abilities, including attention to detail when maintaining records and managing multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data tracking, Word for document preparation, and Outlook for email management.
