Job Description

Role Overview

This role places you at the centre of a busy commercial bakery or food production environment, where you will manage the full spectrum of human resource functions for a workforce that spans production, baking, driving, and sales. Your daily focus will be on keeping operations legally sound, culturally healthy, and adequately staffed, while ensuring every employee from casual labourers to master bakers works safely, competently, and in line with regulatory expectations. You will act as the bridge between management and staff, translating company policy into fair practice and turning HR compliance into a competitive advantage for the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct all HR operations, including policy enforcement, workplace discipline, and adherence to Kenyan labour legislation, safety statutes, and statutory contributions such as NSSF, SHIF/NHIF, and NITA.
  • Manage end-to-end talent acquisition for production staff, master bakers, drivers, and sales personnel, including recruitment, shift planning, and oversight of casual labour contracts and deployment.
  • Build a constructive workplace culture by addressing employee grievances, conducting disciplinary hearings, and implementing welfare programmes that boost morale and retention.
  • Partner with QA and HSE teams to verify that all employees comply with Good Manufacturing Practices, HACCP protocols, and mandatory Food Handler certification requirements.
  • Run performance management cycles from target setting to appraisal, and coordinate NITA-approved skills development programmes for operational and supervisory staff.
  • Work closely with the Finance department to ensure payroll is accurate, complete, and reflective of attendance, overtime, casual labour hours, and statutory deductions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline; a Higher National Diploma in HR is an added advantage.
  • Active IHRM Practicing Certificate, with CHRP-K qualification highly preferred.
  • At least five years of progressive HR experience, including a minimum of three years in a managerial capacity within FMCG, food manufacturing, or a commercial bakery setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Kenyan labour laws, statutory compliance obligations, and OSHA requirements.
  • Proven ability to resolve disputes and manage disciplinary processes with fairness and tact.
  • Fluency in both English and Kiswahili, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on proficiency with HRIS platforms and automated time and attendance tracking systems.
