Job Description

Role Overview

The Account Manager owns the day-to-day relationship with an assigned portfolio of clients staffed through the company, acting as the single point of contact between each client's business leads and the internal HR, finance and operations teams. The role exists to keep contract terms, statutory obligations and payroll running on schedule while the people deployed at client sites stay engaged, compliant and productive. Success is visible in renewed contracts, clean monthly payroll cycles, complaints closed quickly and additional business won inside the accounts already held.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the assigned account end to end: apply the contract's terms of reference and service levels as agreed, track renewal dates for contracted staff, and keep an electronic register of every deployed employee with files complete and current in the system.
  • Prepare monthly payroll for the account — consolidating the updated staff list by the 15th of each month, verifying statutory obligations and deductions (PIN, NSSF, NHIF), and working with the accounts team on fee notes, invoices and purchase orders so payment is not delayed.
  • Administer leave for all contracted staff so entitlements are used within the contract period rather than accumulating, and flag any non-compliance before it becomes a liability.
  • Manage performance and conduct on site: set appraisal timetables and deadlines, monitor and coach staff towards stronger output, recommend disciplinary action where needed, and resolve grievances and complaints within agreed turnaround times.
  • Chair monthly staff meetings at the client station, keep a documented record of the deliberations, report outcomes to management, and promote workplace safety and PPE compliance.
  • Liaise with HR, finance, the key accounts manager and the health and safety manager, escalate the client's recruitment requests so vacant positions are filled in time, and coordinate on employee relations and payroll matters.
  • Grow the account commercially — prospect for new business with the existing client and in the surrounding market, build relationships with decision makers, arrange meetings with company principals, and help shape proposals and pricing that reflect the risk and value of each opportunity.
  • Protect the company and the client from loss by identifying and documenting risks and exposures, monitoring and reporting staff with risky or reputational behaviour, attending risk control meetings and completing recommended training; retain clients through service debriefs, new product introductions and strengthened relationships.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A business-related degree, ideally with an HR bias, or a business-related diploma plus at least two years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering client-focused solutions based on what the customer actually needs.
  • Strong listening, negotiation and presentation skills, with the confidence to handle objections and negotiate to a positive conclusion.
  • Proven ability to run several projects or accounts at once while maintaining strict attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and the ability to work under minimal supervision against agreed targets.
  • Practical understanding of statutory payroll obligations, leave compliance and HR administration, with the judgement to refer to a supervisor when a matter exceeds delegated authority.
