Role Overview
This role centres on being the trusted culinary lead for a private household, responsible for planning and cooking everyday meals that support the client’s health and enjoyment. You will work independently to turn nutritional guidance and personal preferences into varied, beautifully presented dishes, while also keeping the kitchen organised, stocked, and hygienic. Your attention to detail and discretion directly contribute to a smooth-running home and a client who feels cared for at every meal.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare nourishing, well-balanced meals daily, tailored to the client’s tastes, lifestyle, and any dietary restrictions.
- Design weekly menus that rotate across cuisines and cooking styles, ensuring mealtimes remain interesting and satisfying.
- Adjust recipes and portion sizes to accommodate specific health goals, allergen needs, or medical advice as directed.
- Occasionally cook for family members and guests, adapting quantities and dishes for larger gatherings.
- Source and select fresh, high-quality ingredients, and coordinate shopping lists or orders so the kitchen is always well supplied.
- Monitor pantry and fridge stock, manage perishables properly, and store and label food to reduce waste and preserve freshness.
- Keep the kitchen and all food preparation areas clean, organised, and compliant with food-safety standards.
- Prepare and safely store meals in advance when required, and maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working in the private residence.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A recognised qualification in culinary arts, food production, hospitality, nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
- At least two years of professional cooking experience, ideally in a private household, restaurant, hotel, wellness centre, or similar hospitality setting.
- Strong practical knowledge of healthy cooking methods and the ability to build balanced meals from scratch.
- Familiarity with specialised diets, therapeutic meal preparation, or clinical nutrition is a distinct advantage.
- A valid food handler’s certificate is preferred, along with excellent hygiene practices.
- Ability to cook a broad range of local and international dishes with confidence and consistency.
- A genuinely curious and creative approach to food, with a willingness to experiment with new ingredients, recipes, and techniques.
- Organised, discreet, dependable, and open to feedback, with a professional attitude and respect for the household’s privacy.
