Role Overview
This position combines hands-on classroom instruction in Mathematics and Integrated Science with meaningful leadership responsibilities across the school. You will guide teaching teams through the competency-based curriculum, shape instructional strategies, and support both student achievement and staff development. Your work directly influences the quality of teaching and learning, ensuring that students not only grasp core concepts but also build the practical skills and confidence they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver dynamic lessons in Mathematics and Integrated Science, using competency-based methods to promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application.
- Lead and coordinate a team of subject teachers, setting clear expectations, facilitating planning sessions, and ensuring curriculum coverage is consistent and aligned with national standards.
- Monitor teaching quality through regular lesson observations, providing constructive feedback and practical guidance to help colleagues improve their practice.
- Track and analyse student performance data to identify learning gaps, implement targeted interventions, and report progress to school leadership and parents.
- Mentor and coach less experienced teachers, helping them build effective classroom management techniques and instructional skills.
- Champion child protection and safeguarding policies, ensuring all staff understand and follow procedures to keep every student safe and supported.
- Coordinate assessments, examinations, and student reports, ensuring accuracy and timely communication with families.
- Work collaboratively with other department heads and school leaders to integrate cross-curricular initiatives and foster a positive, inclusive school culture.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least seven years of verifiable teaching experience in a recognised school, ideally with direct experience delivering a competency-based curriculum.
- At least three years of proven leadership experience in an educational setting, such as Head of Department, Head of Year, Section Coordinator, Deputy Head, or an equivalent position.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Education with Mathematics and Integrated Science as teaching subjects from an accredited institution.
- Current registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- Strong understanding of contemporary educational issues, particularly those affecting the teaching of Mathematics and Integrated Science.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate both staff and students.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to embrace teamwork across the school community.
- Cultural competence and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a genuine commitment to inspiring, challenging, and empowering students to reach their potential.
- A deep understanding of child protection and safeguarding principles and their practical application in a school environment.
