Role Overview
This leadership position is tasked with embedding risk-awareness into every major strategic decision across Plan International’s global operations. You will guide senior leaders in treating risk as a tool for growth and innovation rather than a constraint, helping them evaluate trade-offs and seize opportunities. Day to day, you refine the enterprise risk framework, oversee the worldwide insurance portfolio, and ensure that risk insights directly shape how the organisation pursues its mission in a complex international environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the ongoing enhancement and implementation of the global enterprise risk management framework, ensuring it supports strategic objectives and decision-making.
- Provide expert, forward-looking advice to senior leadership on emerging risks, organisational exposures, and opportunities where a higher risk appetite could drive greater impact.
- Champion a culture where risks and opportunities are actively identified, understood, and managed together, enabling informed trade-off decisions around action, inaction, and investment.
- Oversee the organisation’s global insurance and risk transfer strategy, including procurement and management of comprehensive insurance programmes that balance cost, compliance, and operational agility.
- Manage a small specialist risk team, building capability and fostering collaboration across the function.
- Cultivate strong relationships with external insurers, brokers, and other key partners to maintain effective protection and value for money.
- Translate complex risk analysis into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders, supporting confident decision-making at all levels.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Significant senior-level experience in enterprise risk management and insurance within an international, multi-country organisation.
- Proven track record of supporting complex, strategic decision-making by evaluating risk and opportunity together.
- Ability to identify, assess, and advise on risk while translating those insights into strategic opportunities and measurable organisational value.
- Experience enabling leaders to take informed, calculated risks rather than simply avoiding or mitigating them.
- Strong influencing, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across cultures and geographies.
- Excellent analytical capability and the skill to communicate complex risk information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Effective leadership and team management experience, including developing small teams.
- A relevant qualification in Risk Management (e.g., IRM, PRM, or equivalent).
