Role Overview
We are seeking a highly distinguished, visionary Head of Medical Services to orchestrate our clinical architecture and champion our healthcare delivery frameworks. Your primary objective is to direct all multi-departmental medical operations, ensuring that the outpatient, inpatient, maternity, theatre, and laboratory units run with absolute precision and efficiency. This position bridges high-level administrative governance with rigorous clinical leadership; you will guide our healthcare facility from institutional policy design and statutory compliance through to quality assurance testing, resource allocation, and advanced workforce development. The role demands a legally astute, clinically accomplished physician who can seamlessly align medical practice with global patient-care benchmarks.
Areas of Accountability
Clinical Governance & Medical Operations
- Provide comprehensive leadership and strategic coordination across all medical wings, ensuring a unified approach to patient care.
- Enforce advanced clinical decision-making models rooted deeply in evidence-based medical research and contemporary protocols.
- Draft, standardize, and routinely audit operational policies, medical guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Establish strict infection prevention control (IPC) programs and patient safety metrics to achieve institutional quality accreditation.
Workforce Development & Clinical Mentorship
- Lead, mentor, and supervise an integrated workforce consisting of Medical Officers, Consultants, Clinical Officers, and Nursing managers.
- Coordinate routine staff performance metrics, identifying structural training deficiencies and executing Continuous Medical Education (CME) schedules.
- Foster a highly collaborative, ethically uncompromised workspace centered on patient satisfaction and professional excellence.
- Partner with the human resource division to optimize medical staff onboarding setups and long-term talent retention plans.
Patient Experience & Care Integrity
- Drive the execution of safe, empathetic, and patient-centered protocols across every frontline interaction node.
- Formulate and implement comprehensive operational tracks aimed at elevating recovery outcomes and consumer feedback scores.
- Resolve intricate client complaints, medical escalations, and care disputes with utmost professionalism and analytical poise.
- Deepen internal and external clinical communication, keeping patient families thoroughly informed during complex medical interventions.
Fiscal Audits, Inventory Control & Regulatory Compliance
- Participate heavily in the creation and validation of the comprehensive medical division budget to maximize financial efficiency.
- Monitor medical hardware status, pharmaceutical inventory volumes, and supply channels to systematically drive down operational waste.
- Enforce absolute statutory compliance with national healthcare statutes, public health acts, and KMPDC licensing rules.
- Validate that all medical practitioners retain updated, active practicing certificates while steering crisis containment pathways during emergencies.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum Entry Criteria
- Academic Foundation: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from an accredited university institution. A Master’s degree in Medicine (MMed), Public Health, Health Systems Management, or an MBA will serve as a distinct asset.
- Professional Licensure: Mandatory current registration and active licensing by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) holding a valid practicing certificate.
- Leadership Longevity: Minimum of 5 to 7 years of active clinical practice, including at least 3 years operating within a senior management or supervisory role (such as a Medical Superintendent) inside a busy Level 4 or higher hospital infrastructure.
- Digital Toolkit: Competence working with modern Hospital Information Management Systems (HIMS) and reporting frameworks.
