Job Description

Role Overview

This position owns the academic direction of the Early Years section, translating the school's curriculum into everyday classroom practice and making sure every young learner is progressing as they should. Day to day, the holder moves between classrooms, planning meetings and management discussions — observing teaching, reviewing records and assessments, and stepping in where learners or teachers need support. The role matters because the quality of instruction children receive in their first years of schooling depends on how closely that instruction is led, checked and improved.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the academic direction for the Early Years section, keeping classroom practice aligned with the school's curriculum and its expectations for teaching quality.
  • Observe lessons regularly and give teachers specific, workable feedback on planning, preparation, delivery, assessment and record keeping.
  • Mentor and supervise Early Years teachers, identifying where individual skills need strengthening and helping them grow professionally.
  • Review learner progress data and assessment outcomes, then put interventions in place for children who are falling behind or need additional challenge.
  • Plan and coordinate the section's academic programmes, assessment schedules and learning activities across the year.
  • Make sure suitable teaching and learning resources are available and actually used well in classrooms.
  • Champion child-centred, inclusive and developmentally appropriate practice that supports learners' academic, social and emotional growth.
  • Prepare and present academic reports, and keep school management informed about the section's performance and any learner or teacher concerns that need attention.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: a degree or diploma in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), Education, or a closely related field.
  • Registration: current registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is mandatory.
  • Experience: at least three years of teaching, ideally within an Early Years setting.
  • Leadership background: prior experience coordinating, supervising or leading a team of teachers is an advantage.
  • Technical knowledge: a solid grasp of Early Years curricula, teaching methodologies, assessment approaches and child development.
  • People skills: a proven ability to lead, mentor and motivate teaching staff, and to work collaboratively with colleagues and school management.
  • Organisation: comfort handling multiple classrooms, records, reports and deadlines at once without losing attention to detail.
