Job Description

Role Overview

This leadership position sits at the intersection of corporate banking and the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. You will shape and execute a sector-specific strategy, oversee a team of relationship managers, and take direct accountability for the financial performance, portfolio quality, and client satisfaction of the entire FMCG book. Your work directly determines how effectively the bank grows its presence in this competitive industry while managing risk responsibly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, refine, and lead the rollout of the FMCG sector strategy, ensuring it aligns with broader corporate banking objectives and market realities.
  • Own the sector's annual business targets across revenue, fees, commissions, profit before tax, assets, liabilities, and customer acquisition, then drive the team to meet or exceed them.
  • Oversee deal execution from origination through structuring and closing, ensuring every transaction follows the client's strategic plan and internal approval processes.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities and champion ecosystem banking—connecting existing and prospective clients to a fuller range of products and services.
  • Build detailed client marketing plans, actively manage pricing and return on equity for each relationship, and work to sustain overall client profitability within acceptable risk parameters.
  • Continuously review the client portfolio for potential high-risk exposures and take proactive measures to protect asset quality, including keeping non-performing loans and portfolio-at-risk within set limits.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for major FMCG clients, deepening those relationships personally and ensuring consistent, seamless, and trusted service delivery that drives loyalty and retention.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the relationship management team, handling recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, one-on-one feedback, and ongoing skill building to meet the sector's evolving needs.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A university degree from a recognised institution; a master's degree in finance or a business-related discipline is a strong advantage.
  • At least eight years of experience in banking or financial services, including no fewer than six years in senior management roles focused on FMCG sub-sectors within corporate banking.
  • A demonstrable track record of hitting growth and profitability targets, with a clear understanding of what drives success in financial services.
  • Solid working knowledge of banking industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging challenges—especially within the consumer goods space.
  • Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate diverse teams, build trust, and manage relationships at all levels.
  • A thorough grasp of corporate governance, statutory requirements, and regulatory obligations as they apply to banking and business operations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, enabling effective engagement with both internal stakeholders and external clients.
