Role Overview
The Grant Accountant manages the financial controls and reporting for assigned projects, helping ensure that donor funds are recorded accurately, spent against approved budgets and handled in line with grant agreements. Working with project teams and finance colleagues, the role provides timely information for decisions, supports audits and protects grant-funded assets throughout each award’s lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare donor and management financial reports, submit them by the required monthly deadlines and upload grant reports to the FFR database.
- Analyse spending and grant burn rates, flag variances and provide recommendations to support management decisions and project oversight.
- Work with project staff to connect approved grant budgets with work plans, and review project costs to confirm they are budgeted and correctly coded.
- Monitor expenditure against approved budgets each month, review purchase requisition forms for available funding and appropriate coding, and reconcile project staff timesheets with payroll.
- Support timely vendor payments and sound management of staff advances; carry out vendor screening and coordinate grant close-out activities.
- Check compliance with donor requirements and grant agreements, and help safeguard assets bought with donor funds.
- Coordinate internal and external audits for assigned grants, provide supporting information, and track progress on audit recommendations.
- Maintain secure, accessible grant records and signed agreements; attend programme meetings to share financial updates, support month- and year-end processes, and supervise the driver.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least two years of experience in finance and accounting, business management or business administration.
- A bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- CPA qualification through Section 4 or intermediate level.
- Basic understanding of project management and the ability to work with budgets, financial reports and audit documentation.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical ability; practical experience with SUN accounting software is an advantage.
- Clear written and verbal communication, sound interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach.
- Commitment to World Vision’s mission, ethos, policies and core values.
