Role Overview
This position serves as the dedicated GESI Officer for the Youth in Sustainable Aquaculture (YISA) Consortium, operating from the Farm Africa office in Kisumu. On a daily basis, the role involves working alongside six consortium partners, local implementing partners, local service providers, village-based advisors, beach management units, and county government teams across six counties to ensure that gender equality, disability inclusion, safeguarding, and participant protection are woven into every program activity. The officer's work is critical because it guarantees that the aquaculture initiative reaches and benefits marginalized groups equitably, while also strengthening the capacity of partner organizations to sustain these practices independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Gender Specialist to embed gender equality, social inclusion, disability inclusion, and safeguarding principles into all YISA programming, including participant training and partner workflows. Coordinate with communications colleagues to create, customize, and distribute capacity-building resources such as manuals and toolkits.
- Lead the rollout of GESI initiatives in six counties, working in tandem with County Assistants and program staff. Develop training decks, deliver awareness-raising workshops for partners and community groups, manage logistical and financial paperwork, and participate in monitoring trips to the field.
- Evaluate where consortium partners need support in applying GESI principles, provide hands-on coaching and tailored mentorship, and capture successful approaches and lessons learned for future use.
- Join forces with Gender Focal Points in Beach Management Units and Local Implementing Partners to educate communities about gender-based violence prevention, while ensuring survivors are connected to specialized services through confidential, approved referral channels.
- Organize and record bi-weekly GESI coordination meetings for the consortium, monitor partner commitments, and keep a current tracker of agreed actions.
- Gather and consolidate data on GESI activities, validate participant registration and reimbursement documentation, input data using platforms like ODK or Kobo, and prepare detailed progress reports, briefs, and slide decks.
- Adhere to ENAF and Farm Africa safeguarding protocols, protect participant confidentiality, and immediately report any protection issues via established channels.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Community Development, or a similar field.

- Technical Skills: Familiarity with gender-transformative methodologies, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) frameworks, data collection tools like ODK or Kobo, project management, report writing, and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Behavioral Competencies: Demonstrated ability to engage diverse stakeholders, work effectively in a team, communicate clearly, solve problems creatively, maintain a learning orientation, and manage time and tasks with discipline.
