Role Overview
This position keeps the kitchen and dining areas aboard a Naval installation or deployment site operationally clean, safe, and ready for every meal cycle. Day to day, you will handle deep cleaning of cooking equipment, surfaces, and utensils, respond quickly to spills and waste, and support the galley crew so food preparation runs without interruption. Your work directly protects the health of the entire crew by preventing contamination and maintaining strict sanitation standards in a high-demand food service environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Scrub, rinse, and sanitize cooking equipment, utensils, serving trays, and food machinery following established sanitation protocols.
- Sweep, mop, and wipe down all galley surfaces, including counters, floors, walls, and storage areas, to remove grease, crumbs, and debris.
- Monitor serving lines and food prep zones during meal periods, immediately addressing spills, drips, and waste to keep walkways and work areas safe.
- Empty trash containers, replace liners, and dispose of waste in line with Navy environmental and safety regulations.
- Replenish cleaning supplies, degreasers, sanitizers, and paper products, and notify supervisors when stock runs low.
- Inspect and maintain mops, brushes, sprayers, and other cleaning tools to ensure they remain in working condition.
- Help organize and store kitchen equipment properly to prevent damage and keep items accessible for the next meal service.
- Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules, documenting completed tasks as required by contract or command procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one to two years of professional janitorial or industrial cleaning experience, ideally in a commercial kitchen, cafeteria, or food-processing setting.
- Working knowledge of food-safe sanitizing methods, chemical handling, and general health code expectations for food service areas.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow a structured cleaning plan and spot contamination risks before they become problems.
- Ability to keep pace during busy meal periods while maintaining consistent hygiene and safety standards.
- Must obtain and maintain installation access credentials and meet all contract security requirements.
- Must be able to read, speak, and understand English well enough to follow instructions, complete required paperwork, and respond to emergency procedures.
- Must hold a passport valid for at least one year from the date of hire and be eligible for country-specific visas under the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Must pass contract medical screening and remain medically fit for the entire deployment assignment.
