Role Overview
This teaching post is centred on planning and delivering Competency-Based Education (CBE) lessons that build real understanding, practical skills and sound values in learners rather than simple recall of facts. The teacher carries a full classroom load and is personally accountable for each learner's academic progress, assessment records and day-to-day wellbeing in school. The role matters because steady, well-prepared teaching is what turns the curriculum into genuine learning, and because parents, colleagues and school leadership rely on the teacher to hold that standard consistently across the term.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans and records of work that follow the approved CBE curriculum designs, and keep them up to date and available for review.
- Teach learner-centred lessons that draw on varied methods, locally available materials and group activities to develop core competencies, skills and values.
- Design and administer both formative and summative assessments, including rubrics, portfolios and practical tasks, and use the results to adjust subsequent teaching.
- Keep accurate records of learner progress, marks and attendance, and prepare termly reports and performance analysis for each class taught.
- Manage the classroom so that learners remain safe, disciplined and engaged, addressing behaviour issues promptly and fairly.
- Offer pastoral support by identifying learners who are struggling academically or personally and intervening or referring them as appropriate.
- Communicate with parents and guardians about progress and concerns, and take part in staff meetings, departmental planning and co-curricular activities.
- Continuously strengthen your own subject knowledge and teaching practice in line with current CBE expectations and school development priorities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). This is mandatory for the position.
- A minimum of three years' relevant teaching experience.
- Relevant academic and professional teaching qualifications.
- Demonstrated competency in Competency-Based Education, including familiarity with curriculum designs and competency-based assessment practices.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Strong professional ethics, sound judgement and effective communication skills.
- A genuine commitment to child-centred learning and academic excellence.
