- Develop and implement budgeting procedures, guiding departments in budget preparation, forecasting financial conditions, and monitoring performance against targets to recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare and deliver financial reports for management and stakeholders, using ratio analysis, benchmarking, and performance gap assessments to drive improvement.
- Manage treasury and cash flow by producing weekly projections, analysing funding options and asset-liability exposures, and recommending risk limits to maintain capital adequacy.
- Coordinate business plan development, consolidating head office and branch plans, monitoring financial performance relative to operational goals, and ensuring consistency across the organisation.
- Design and oversee internal control systems, assessing risks in key operational areas, coordinating with external auditors, and applying recommendations to enhance accounting processes.
- Lead and mentor the finance team, setting performance goals, conducting evaluations, and fostering a collaborative environment through training and coaching.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or an equivalent field; a Master’s Degree is preferred.
- Professional accounting certification such as CPA (K) or ACCA.
- Minimum of six years of relevant experience, including at least one year in a senior leadership role within microfinance, retail banking, or enterprise lending.
- In-depth understanding of banking principles, microfinance industry practices, and current financial trends; additional finance certifications and a practicing license are advantageous.
- Proven leadership skills with a track record of driving performance, motivating teams, and acting as a change agent for operational improvements.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities for stakeholder management and business development.
- High ethical standards and personal integrity, with a commitment to the organisation's core values.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks or SAP.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, along with initiative, perseverance, and the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Willingness to take responsibility and comply with the organisation's ideals and core values.
