Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits within the finance and budget unit, providing day-to-day operational support that keeps financial controls solid and transactions moving. The work involves monitoring budgets, reviewing payments, reconciling cash accounts, and helping colleagues apply financial rules consistently. It matters because accurate and timely processing of funds protects organizational resources and supports transparent decision-making at every level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support staff by interpreting and applying financial policies, procedures, and regulations, responding to queries and ensuring consistent compliance across teams.
  • Track budget utilization against approved plans, flag variances, and prepare monthly spending summaries to support management decisions.
  • Review and reconcile sub-imprest and petty cash accounts, checking that cash levels are adequate and disbursements are properly documented.
  • Process vendor claims, advances, and receivables, confirming that supporting documents are complete and payments follow procurement rules.
  • Extract and validate financial data from internal information systems, correct errors or escalate discrepancies, and monitor account balances to prevent overdrafts.
  • Maintain a register of invoices, transfers, and payment paperwork, ensuring complete and organized filing in line with internal standards.
  • Prepare budget, accounting, and statistical reports by pulling information from multiple sources and presenting it clearly for management use.
  • Provide guidance and on-the-job training to junior finance support staff on systems and procedures to maintain service quality.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a closely related field.
  • Professional accountancy certification is an added advantage.
  • At least five years of experience in finance and accounting roles.
  • Public accounting experience is desirable.
  • Proven ability to collect, monitor, and analyze financial data and report findings to senior management.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
