Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on accounting role responsible for the complete financial record-keeping cycle, from invoicing and supplier payments to month-end closings and statutory filings. You will act as a key guardian of financial data integrity, ensuring every transaction is properly documented, reconciled, and reported in line with accounting standards and internal policies. Your work directly supports the organisation’s cash flow, budgeting decisions, and audit readiness, making accuracy and consistency essential to daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records, management accounts, and general ledger reconciliations on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including full month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Own the complete accounts receivable cycle: generate invoices, track contract milestones, follow up on overdue balances, and reconcile billings to prevent revenue leakage.
  • Manage accounts payable by verifying payment requests against approval workflows, processing supplier invoices on time, reconciling vendor statements, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Run monthly payroll processing and ensure payroll-related records are properly accounted for in the general ledger.
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations, monitor cash flow and liquidity, manage petty cash, and support treasury tasks such as transfers, payments, and cash forecasting.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, coordinate periodic asset verification and stock-taking, and track asset movements with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and file statutory returns within deadlines, support internal and external audits with schedules and documentation, and help implement effective internal controls.
  • Monitor departmental spending against approved budgets, analyse variances, and assist project managers with project cost tracking and profitability reporting.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field, with at least a B plain in KCSE.
  • Must be a CPA finalist; active ICPAK membership is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant accounting experience in a similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP system, preferably Microsoft Business Central or similar, and strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Solid knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, tax regulations, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability in financial reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, along with strong financial data analysis and management reporting skills.
  • Understanding of project accounting and service-based business models is an added advantage.
  • High integrity, confidentiality, and strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships internally and with external clients and suppliers.
