Job Description
Health Insurance Broker Manager
Role Overview
This position owns the day-to-day relationship between the health insurance business and the intermediary partners who place medical and employee benefits cover with us. You will be the first point of contact for brokers, helping them match client needs to the right plans while keeping quotations, renewals and service issues moving so that no opportunity stalls. The role matters because the broker channel is a primary route to market for health insurance, and the strength of those partnerships directly shapes new business volumes, retention and how the brand is regarded by employers and intermediaries.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a panel of health insurance brokers and agencies, acting as their primary contact for product, pricing and service queries.
- Support new business generation through the channel by facilitating quotations, following up on submitted proposals and helping convert open leads.
- Coordinate renewal activity ahead of expiry, working with underwriting to structure terms and protect existing groups from lapse.
- Resolve escalations by liaising across underwriting, claims and customer service so that broker and client issues are closed out promptly.
- Brief and train brokers on the health insurance portfolio, including benefits, exclusions, eligibility and onboarding requirements.
- Negotiate broker agreements, remuneration arrangements and service expectations within approved internal parameters.
- Track and report channel performance — pipeline, conversion, persistency and premium growth — to management on a regular cycle.
- Monitor competitor activity, market trends and regulatory changes, feeding insight back to product, pricing and compliance teams.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in health insurance broker management.
- A business-related degree, or equivalent relevant experience in the field.
- Diploma in Insurance and/or Certificate of Proficiency (COP).
- Working knowledge of health and group medical insurance products, underwriting fundamentals and renewal processes.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain intermediary relationships, negotiate terms and influence commercial outcomes.
- Commercial awareness, including pipeline management, target tracking and performance reporting.
- Confident written and verbal communicator, comfortable presenting and delivering training to broker audiences.
- Well organised, able to run several broker accounts and competing deadlines at once, with familiarity in CRM and reporting tools.
