Job Description

Role Overview

This entry-level field engineering role develops hands-on capability with logging-while-drilling and directional drilling tools under close supervision. You will divide your time between learning technical fundamentals and applying them at the wellsite, where precise execution and safe equipment maintenance directly influence drilling performance and service quality. Success means becoming a reliable rig-site contributor who can follow well plans, support directional drilling operations, and conduct every task in line with Baker Hughes safety, compliance, and Core Values expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build working knowledge of assigned logging-while-drilling and directional drilling tools and services through supervised field assignments and formal training.
  • Read and follow well plans to support directional drilling execution at the rig site.
  • Perform routine tool maintenance and operational checks at the wellsite, escalating issues to supervisors when needed.
  • Complete all duties according to work instructions, health, safety, and environmental expectations, legal compliance rules, and Baker Hughes Core Values.
  • Progress through the Applications Engineer-1 Program requirements and local training and development milestones.
  • Communicate clearly with rig crews, supervisors, and customer representatives during operations and presentations.
  • Apply mechanical and electrical aptitude to assemble, handle, and troubleshoot downhole equipment safely.
  • Take on additional duties assigned by supervisors to support wellsite and operational needs.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field: science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • General understanding of basic engineering principles, with solid mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Capacity to develop proficiency in running basic logging-while-drilling jobs and services.
  • Ability to work effectively within a global, matrixed organization.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including confidence presenting to experienced peers.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to rig sites, customer facilities, meetings, and training locations.
  • Commitment to safety, legal compliance, and ethical conduct in all business activities.
  • This role is structured for early-career engineers; the program provides supervised development rather than requiring prior directional drilling experience.

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Structured technical and professional development through the Applications Engineer-1 Program, plus local training requirements.
  • Direct field exposure to logging-while-drilling and directional drilling services, with supervision built into the role.
  • A global matrixed organization that connects you with engineering and operations colleagues across locations.
  • A work environment where health, safety, environmental protection, legal compliance, and Core Values guide how business is conducted.
  • Travel opportunities that may include rig sites, customer facilities, meetings, and training events.
