Role Overview
This position keeps the organisation’s document workflow moving by physically moving sensitive paperwork and official packages across Nairobi and surrounding areas. Operating both a motorbike and a saloon vehicle, the courier ensures that contracts, invoices, bid documents, and bank correspondence reach their destinations on time and in perfect condition. The role matters because a single misplaced or late document can stall approvals, payments, or regulatory processes, so this person is a direct contributor to operational reliability and client confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and pick up sealed documents, payment vouchers, legal papers, and other official items between the head office, client premises, government offices, and financial institutions throughout the day.
- Ride a company motorcycle for short, fast trips and drive a company car for larger loads or longer distances, always obeying traffic laws and defensive driving practices.
- Log every consignment in the movement register, including item descriptions, timestamps, recipient names, and official acknowledgement details such as signatures or stamps.
- Handle all paperwork with strict confidentiality, ensuring that sensitive documents are never left unattended, exposed, or discussed with unauthorised persons.
- Track documents that have been submitted to external bodies and proactively follow up with receiving offices to confirm approval, rejection, or pending status, then report back to the relevant internal department.
- Plan daily delivery routes to avoid traffic bottlenecks, reduce fuel usage, and meet tight deadlines without unnecessary backtracking.
- Perform routine pre-trip inspections on the assigned vehicle or motorcycle, checking tyres, brakes, lights, fluid levels, and documents, and escalate any mechanical problems to the transport supervisor immediately.
- Maintain an accurate daily record of kilometres travelled, deliveries made, fuel used, and any delays experienced, submitting this report at the end of each shift.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- A valid Kenyan driving licence class B, covering light vehicles and small vans, with at least two years of active driving experience.
- A valid Kenyan motorcycle riding licence class A, with proven competence riding in urban traffic and on unpaved roads.
- At least two years of combined experience in courier services, document handling, logistics, or a related delivery-based role.
- Prior employment within a corporate office, clearing and forwarding firm, or structured supply chain operation is a strong advantage.
- A clean driving and riding record with no pending traffic violations, confirmed by a certificate of good conduct or traffic abstract.
- Solid working knowledge of Kenyan traffic rules, road signs, and common routes within the city and its suburbs.
- Familiarity with smartphone navigation tools such as Google Maps and GPS applications to locate addresses efficiently.
- Strong organisational ability, basic numeracy for records and receipts, and reliable communication skills for interacting with clients and office staff.
