Qualifications
The following are the recognized qualifications for the cadre:
- At least fifteen (15) years cumulative work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Assistant Director, Administration Services or in a comparable position in the Private or Public sector;
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Public Administration, Business Administration, Business Management, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Human Resource Management, Human Resource Development, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Transport and Logistics, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Post Graduate Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Human Resource Management, Industrial Relations, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
- Membership to a relevant professional body;
- Certificate in a Leadership Course;
- A valid practicing license where applicable;
- Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Deputy Director, Administration is responsible for the following functions:
- In charge of the development, implementation, and review of health administrative department policies, strategies, standards, guidelines, and procedures;
- Coordinating maintenance of the workplace environment;
- Coordinating environmental safety, hygiene, and sanitation;
- Management of administrative personnel;
- Ensuring prudent utilization of resources allocated to the department;
- Coordinating the overall provision of transport and logistics to NLAS staff;
- Controlling and monitoring the location and movement of equipment;
- Maintaining custody of hospital asset registers;
- In charge of the proper utilization and allocation of office space and resources;
- Coordinating maintenance of hospital infrastructure and equipment;
- Coordinating the preparation of departmental budgets and work plans;
- Coordinating interdepartmental activities;
- Providing technical advice to the Board and Chief Executive Officer on the administrative function;
- Overseeing management of outsourced services;
- Ensuring compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs);
- Coordinating the preparation and submission of periodic reports; and
- Ensuring training needs of staff working in the department are addressed.
Remuneration
Remuneration will be in accordance with NLAS Salary Scale:
NLAS GRADE 3. Kshs. 202,875 x 19,303 – 222,178 x 19,305 – 241,483 x 19,305 – 260,788 x 19,305 – 280,093 x 19,305 – 299,398 x 19,305 – 318,703 x 19,305 – 338,008 x 19,305 – 357,313 p.m.
Terms of Service
Note: NLAS Grades 1, 2 & 3 are on a three-year contract basis, renewable once, while the rest are on permanent and pensionable terms.

- Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority;
- Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;

- Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board or proof of ongoing repayments.
