Role Overview
This position drives logistics for rapid emergency response, overseeing day-to-day procurement, supply chain, fleet, warehousing, and security integration. The manager ensures that critical supplies reach crisis-affected regions on time and in compliance with donor and organisational standards, while directly supporting field teams and representing logistics in coordination forums. Success in this role directly shapes the speed and effectiveness of humanitarian assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Craft and execute procurement strategies and supply plans, maintain vetted supplier databases, validate vendors, and track deliveries to prevent shortages or waste in complex emergencies.
- Lead regional supply chain and procurement processes for global outbreak responses and humanitarian programming.
- Update movement protocols and monitor security incidents that affect logistics, ensuring safe transport and field operations.
- Support country logistics teams through recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Produce regular logistics reports, contribute to donor reporting, conduct internal supply chain audits, and follow up on corrective actions.
- Remotely oversee warehouse operations, guarantee proper storage, perform stock counts, and implement loss-prevention measures.
- Represent logistics in regional coordination meetings and conduct field visits to provide technical oversight and hands-on support.
- Build country office capabilities in inventory and warehouse management, ensuring teams are trained and equipped with effective tools.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree plus 8 years of relevant humanitarian logistics and management experience in emergencies, or a Master’s degree plus at least 5 years of experience implementing humanitarian programming. Professional certification or advanced training in logistics/supply chain management is preferred.
- Professional experience: Minimum 5 years in a managerial role. Experience with bilateral and multilateral humanitarian donors, international donor procurement rules, and fraud detection/compliance.
- Technical skills: Deep knowledge of humanitarian procurement, budgeting, and supply chain best practices. Strong negotiation, contract management, and vendor oversight abilities. Familiarity with donor regulations and fraud detection methods.
- Core competencies: Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and influencing skills. Ability to work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse teams. Highly organized, resourceful, and able to manage multiple priorities in high-pressure emergency contexts.
- Preferred qualifications: Fluency in English. Strong people-management and cross-cultural communication skills. Experience using data analytics software and/or AI to support reporting and improve operational efficiency.
