Job Description

Role Overview

This role provides day-to-day analytical and administrative backbone to the East Africa coverage team, enabling them to originate, structure, and manage investment transactions across the region. You will build financial models, maintain portfolio dashboards, and conduct market research that directly informs lending and investment decisions. Your work ensures the team can efficiently deploy capital, grow the client base, and maintain the rigorous financial and impact standards expected by the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation models and debt capacity analyses to support transaction structuring and credit decisions.
  • Track and update the investment pipeline and portfolio dashboards, flagging changes in risk or opportunity to coverage officers.
  • Screen early-stage projects for financial viability, risk exposure, and alignment with development impact objectives.
  • Conduct deep-dive research on industries, markets, and client companies, including analysis of financial statements to identify client needs and tailor solutions.
  • Support the deal lifecycle from due diligence through approval, including preparing presentation decks, memoranda, and client meeting materials.
  • Coordinate with internal teams (lending operations, treasury) and external clients to ensure timely receipt of information and smooth disbursement processes.
  • Maintain accurate transaction and client records, and uphold knowledge management by updating lessons learned databases.
  • Assist with administrative closing tasks such as processing instructions, routing documents, and handling client correspondence.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field; a professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CFA) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience in lending, investments, or debt/equity transactions.
  • Strong command of accounting principles, financial modeling, DCF analysis, scenario analysis, and comparative financial statement review.
  • Proven ability to conduct market and industry research, including identifying gaps and conditions that affect business opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of distilling complex data into clear, concise insights for internal and external stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Comfort working in a multicultural environment, with strong professional independence, integrity, and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Fluency in English is required; working knowledge of French or Portuguese is a valuable asset.

This position offers a front-row seat to the origination and execution of development finance transactions that drive economic growth in East Africa. You will build deep expertise in financial analysis, client engagement, and deal management while contributing to a mission-focused institution.
