Role Overview
This position owns the growth and retention of corporate general insurance business placed through independent financial advisers (IFAs). Day to day, the holder builds IFA relationships, converts new advisers and opportunities into premium-producing accounts, manages renewals, and coordinates underwriting, claims, finance, and service follow-through. The role matters because it directly expands the corporate GI portfolio while protecting existing revenue through strong intermediary engagement and disciplined execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Win new corporate GI accounts via IFAs by identifying prospects, supporting pitches, and converting adviser-led opportunities into placed business.
- Protect and expand the existing corporate GI book by managing renewals, spotting upsell and cross-sell openings, and keeping retention high.
- Build and maintain active relationships with IFAs, including recruiting, onboarding, and activating new intermediaries to increase productive capacity.
- Prepare and forward proposal forms, risk details, and supporting documents to underwriting, and complete preliminary risk assessments within delegated authority.
- Coordinate with claims, finance, underwriting, branches, and other teams to resolve policy servicing, claims, commission, and premium collection issues promptly.
- Deliver product and process training to IFAs, promote approved incentive programmes, and keep advisers informed of relevant guidelines and market practices.
- Track competitor activity, market shifts, and IFA performance, and share intelligence with the supervisor to inform business development plans.
- Produce daily, weekly, and ad hoc performance reports, monitor premium targets, and follow up outstanding receivables to support revenue collection.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, finance, marketing, or a related discipline.
- Professional insurance qualification such as ACII, IIK, or an equivalent recognised credential.
- 2–4 years in insurance, ideally general insurance sales, business development, or intermediary/IFA relationship management.
- Working knowledge of GI products, policy wording, coverage, exclusions, and prevailing market practices.
- Proven ability to build and sustain IFA relationships that produce new business and improve retention.
- Sales and business development skills, including negotiation, influence, opportunity qualification, and target delivery.
- Experience managing a corporate portfolio, renewals, and retention levels.
- Understanding of risk assessment and underwriting guidelines sufficient to operate within delegated authority.
- Strong coordination, customer service, reporting, and documentation skills, with the ability to resolve service and premium issues across functions.
