Job Purpose

We are seeking a Cook (Family Chef) to manage meal preparation and kitchen operations for a family household in Gatundu. The role requires strong cooking skills, menu planning, and the ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.

Your Role

  • Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious, high‑quality meals that match the family’s preferences and dietary needs.

  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety, and household respect.

Main Responsibilities

Meal Planning & Nutrition

  • Develop weekly meal plans based on family preferences, dietary needs, and balanced nutrition.

  • Include a variety of African dishes while accommodating health or age‑related requirements.

  • Adjust menus based on feedback, ingredient availability, and special occasions.

Food Preparation & Cooking

  • Prepare and cook daily meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) to a high standard.

  • Ensure meals are well‑presented, flavorful, and served on time.

  • Maintain consistency in quality while introducing reasonable variety.

Grocery Shopping & Inventory Management

  • Source fresh, high‑quality ingredients while managing costs effectively.

  • Maintain kitchen inventory and ensure timely restocking.

  • Store food properly to minimize waste and ensure freshness.

Kitchen Hygiene & Food Safety

  • Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen areas, utensils, and equipment.

  • Follow proper food handling, storage, and hygiene standards.

  • Ensure waste is disposed of appropriately and the kitchen remains organized.

Serving & Household Support

  • Serve meals neatly and respectfully as required.

  • Support elderly family members during mealtimes with patience and care.

  • Respond to feedback and adjust meals or service accordingly.

Time & Task Management

  • Plan and organize daily tasks to ensure timely meal preparation.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Adapt to schedule changes and additional requests efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Food Production, Culinary Arts, or related field.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a family cook or private chef.

  • Proven experience preparing a variety of African dishes.

  • Knowledge of nutrition and balanced meal planning.

Skills & Personal Attributes

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • High level of cleanliness and organization.

  • Trustworthy, disciplined, and respectful in a family setting.
