Job Description

Role Overview

Reporting to the Group Chief, Internal Controller and Compliance Officer, the Compliance Analyst helps put AGF’s compliance programme into practice. The role combines third-party due diligence, monitoring, regulatory research and data-led reporting to identify potential issues early and support compliance with laws, internal standards and recognised international practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the upkeep of compliance policies, procedures and practical tools covering AML/CFT, data protection, conflicts of interest, fraud, whistleblowing and ethical conduct.
  • Review financial institution partners, counterparties, suppliers and other third parties through KYC and due diligence checks, including sanctions, PEP and adverse-media screening.
  • Carry out monitoring and testing under the approved plan, record results and recommend actions to address identified gaps.
  • Research regulatory changes in AGF’s operating jurisdictions and assess how they may affect internal policies and processes.
  • Maintain compliance records and registers, including regulatory obligations, conflicts declarations, gifts and hospitality, breaches and incidents.
  • Gather and analyse information for compliance risk assessments, helping identify and track areas of exposure.
  • Help prepare and deliver employee compliance training, monitor mandatory training completion, and contribute to the compliance activities plan.
  • Produce weekly, monthly and quarterly activity reports and dashboards, and assist with reporting to Management and the Board.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in compliance, auditing, risk management, finance, accounting, law or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in compliance, AML/CFT, risk management or audit, preferably in financial services, consulting, a law firm or a development finance institution. Big Four experience is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of AML/CFT, data protection, fraud, risk management and internal control standards and requirements.
  • Professional certification, or current study toward one, such as ACAMS, ICA or CFE, is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, research and critical-thinking abilities, with experience interpreting information and preparing clear written reports.
  • Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with spreadsheets; familiarity with sanctions-screening or compliance-monitoring systems is beneficial.
  • Good understanding of the African business environment and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural, evolving setting.
  • Fluent English and French are an advantage. Willingness and ability to travel is required.
  • Demonstrated integrity and discretion when handling confidential information, alongside sound organisation, prioritisation and communication skills.
  • Able to manage several assignments and tight deadlines, work with limited supervision, and contribute both independently and as part of a team.
  • Careful attention to detail, practical IT skills and an interest in supporting the success of SMEs.
