Job Description

Role Overview

This internship sits within the CITES MIKE Programme team in Nairobi, supporting the Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants initiative. You will work directly with the Programme Management Officer to create and distribute communications and multimedia content, helping to raise the visibility of conservation efforts across regional and global audiences. Alongside communications, you will assist with capacity-building activities and general programme administration, giving you practical exposure to how an international environmental treaty functions on the ground.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and adapt social media posts that spotlight MIKE's field work and connect it to wider biodiversity themes, following existing communication guidelines and the programme's editorial plan.
  • Capture, edit, and assemble photo and video assets for use across CITES digital channels and outreach materials.
  • Design practical resources such as factsheets, slide decks, and branded templates for training sessions, campaigns, and meetings.
  • Keep the programme's library of images, videos, and graphics organised and accessible for internal and external use.
  • Coordinate communication timelines for campaigns, workshops, and high-level events, ensuring materials are ready when needed.
  • Track engagement metrics from websites and social platforms, then compile clear monthly or quarterly summaries for the team.
  • Maintain schedules, tracker sheets, and documentation related to ongoing MIKE activities.
  • Support the broader team with ad hoc administrative and programme tasks as they arise.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Enrolment in the final year of a bachelor's degree, or current enrolment in a graduate programme, or completion of a university degree at bachelor's level or higher at the time of application.
  • An academic background or demonstrated experience in communications, graphic design, social media management, web development, or a closely related field.
  • Certification in design tools such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Canva, or similar software.
  • Fluency in English, with the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the language at a professional level.
  • Working knowledge of French or Spanish is an advantage.
  • No prior professional work experience is required, but the candidate's field of study must be relevant to the internship's focus.
  • Ability to manage multiple content pieces, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly across a multicultural team.
