Job Description

Role Overview

This internship places you at the centre of Swisscontact Kenya's communications work, where you will turn real programme moments into compelling visual narratives. You will be out in the field capturing photos and footage alongside project teams, then shaping that material into polished videos, social media content, and presentation assets that demonstrate how youth skills development and entrepreneurship initiatives are changing lives. Your daily work directly supports the organisation's visibility across its agribusiness, digital skills, green skills, eye health, and e-mobility projects, helping partners and stakeholders see tangible results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Document programme events, field visits, and project activities through high-quality photography and videography, from planning shots to capturing candid interviews and highlight moments.
  • Edit and produce multimedia assets including short-form videos, reels, photo stories, event recaps, and social media clips for platforms such as Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
  • Collaborate with project teams to identify stories worth telling, translating raw programme data and participant experiences into accessible visual content.
  • Draft and assemble supporting materials such as captions, interview snippets, and visual summaries for internal reports, website updates, and partner communications.
  • Maintain an organised digital media library, ensuring files are named, stored, and archived according to organisational guidelines.
  • Track content performance across social channels and suggest creative adjustments based on what resonates with audiences.
  • Provide flexible support to the Country Communications Lead on additional communication activities, events, and campaigns as they arise.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Communications, Journalism, Digital Media, Film Production, Public Relations, Marketing, or a closely related field.
  • Proven hands-on ability in photography and videography, including strong knowledge of camera operation and mobile shooting techniques.
  • Working proficiency with editing and design tools such as Canva, Adobe Express, CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Microsoft Clipchamp, PowerPoint, or comparable software.
  • Familiarity with current social media trends, digital content formats, and platform-specific best practices for engaging audiences.
  • A keen eye for turning complex programme activities and outcomes into clear, emotionally resonant visual stories.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple content requests simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, plus a proactive, collaborative attitude in fast-moving environments.
  • Bonus: graphic design experience or a demonstrated ability to create visual identities, infographics, or branded assets.
  • Applicants must submit a portfolio or work samples covering photography, short-form videos or reels, at least three edited video projects (for example, an event highlights video, an impact/interview story, and a social media clip), and any design work if available. This can be shared as an online portfolio link, Google Drive folder, YouTube/Vimeo channel, or relevant social media page.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a paid internship with an initial three-month contract, renewable based on satisfactory performance, giving you immediate professional experience within an established international development organisation. You will build a strong portfolio of real-world content while working alongside experienced communications and programme teams across a diverse project portfolio. Swisscontact is an equal opportunity employer, and all applicants must have the legal right to work in Kenya.
