Job Description

Role Overview

As a Communications and Media Associate, you will support the day-to-day execution of EAMDA’s visibility and branding efforts, working directly with programme teams to tell the story of our agricultural market systems work. Your responsibilities will span content creation, digital communications, event coverage, and graphic design, ensuring that project milestones and impact are shared effectively with donors, partners, and the public. This internship is designed to give you hands-on experience in international development communications while contributing to real-world outreach goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and edit stories, case studies, and impact narratives that highlight field activities and programme results.
  • Plan and schedule posts for social media channels (LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube), track engagement, and prepare monthly performance reports.
  • Create and maintain digital assets such as infographics, short videos, podcasts, and photo series using tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or video editors.
  • Support the design of branded materials — brochures, banners, fact sheets, and presentation decks — ensuring consistent use of EAMDA’s brand guidelines.
  • Assist in documenting events, workshops, and field visits through photography, videography, interviews, and post-event summaries.
  • Organise and manage the organisation’s digital asset library, keeping photos, videos, and communication products accessible and well-indexed.
  • Monitor news and industry trends relevant to agriculture and agribusiness, compile media monitoring reports, and suggest content ideas based on findings.
  • Collaborate with programme teams to identify compelling stories of change and support internal communication initiatives that strengthen staff engagement.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Digital Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Development Communication, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience creating content for social media platforms (personal or professional portfolios accepted).
  • Basic graphic design ability with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut Pro, or similar).
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to turn technical information into clear, audience-friendly stories.
  • Interest in agriculture, agribusiness, entrepreneurship, or international development is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer) is a plus.
  • Must be a recent graduate (within the last three years) and available for the full three-month internship period.
  • Willingness to work on a hybrid schedule and travel occasionally within Kenya for field activities.

What We Offer / Why Join

This paid internship provides a monthly stipend and structured mentorship from experienced communications and programme professionals. You will gain practical exposure to branding, digital strategy, and storytelling within the international development and agribusiness sectors. Hybrid working arrangements are possible, and occasional travel to project sites will deepen your understanding of agricultural market systems. This is a three-month placement based in Nairobi, with the chance to build a strong portfolio of real-world communications work while contributing to meaningful impact.
